I know there are a lot of teachers on this board, and I wanted to get to know you all better!
Where do you work (State)?
What do you teach?
How long have you been teaching?
Will you take any time off after baby?
I'll go first!
I teach High School English in California. I have been teaching for 5 years and probably won't take time off since baby is coming at the beginning of summer vacation
Re: GTKY: Teachers!
I'm a school psychologist -2nd year (3rd with internship). Work in Ohio with pre-k through 12th (yup, I get them all!). I might take a couple weeks off at the start of the year (or at least a stay home and start all the mindless paperwork so I don't get too behind!).
I'm in Washington state, getting K-8 certification, in a 3rd grade class for student teaching.
Obviously I won't get any time off because I won't be and will not try for a contract for about a year. Just going to sub a few times a week hopefully!
One and a half days till Christmas break! Woohoo!
I'm in NY and I teach K-6. Planning to work right up until I have the baby and pick back up again in the fall.
I don't plan on taking any time off after baby since he/she's due right as summer vacation begins. I may need to take a week or two off right at the end of the year, depending on when he/she arrives (I'm due May 30th).
I'm certified in WA state in Early Childhood Special Education (birth-8)
I taught for 1 year before I had DS/moved to CA
I don't plan on going back to work for a LONG LONG LONG time (I want 5 kids and don't plan on working until they are all in school)
I am a schoo nurse at PreK-8th grade private school in Texas. I absolutely love it, and I cannot wait until my kids are in school here with me! This is my second year doing this.
I plan to take 12 weeks of FMLA at the beginning of August so I will be home with baby from June-November.
Married to DH 10.29.11
DD born 1.26.13
DS born 6.12.14
#3 due 12.6.16
BFP #2 9/28/13....EDD 6/7/14
Since I will be medically cleared to return at the start of the year, I don't have to do the straight 6 weeks like I did with DD. I'm thinking of working three days and being off on Mondays/Fridays. I'll try doing that through Thanksgiving. DH did that from December-June when he stayed home with DD. It was awesome! (He's a teacher, too).
I'm a special education teacher K-12. My last job (first real teaching job!) I worked as a Developmental Preschool Teacher for 2.5 years in Kodiak, Alaska! I'm moving again 1 month before our baby is due and we don't know which state yet so not sure how long it will be before I can get certified in a new state and start a new job with a new born! I miss teaching and having a classroom!
What do you teach? 7th Grade Learning Support (includes math, LA, and English) and regular ed Language Arts
How long have you been teaching? This is my 3rd year in this job, but I did sub (including long term sub positions) for 5 years before getting a contract. I can second the comments about PA being extremely competitive. It wasn't until I went back to school and got my certification in special education that jobs opened up. *EDITED* Initially I only had my elementary education certificate. Now I have that, special ed, middle level math, and middle level English.
Will you take any time off after baby? Yes, I literally just told my principal today and plan on taking off at least the first quarter, but maybe until Thanksgiving. Not any longer though.
I teach 3rd grade ELA.
This is my seventh year teaching!!
I am in the process of opening a daycare opening in August!!! I'm so excited.
I teach 9th and 10th grade English. It's frigging awesome.
This is my third year. It's been a whirlwind.
And yes, I'm going back in August. Not looking forward to it, but it's not financially feasible to do anything else.
I am so glad to see so many other teachers in here! Way to go, us.

What do you teach? 2nd grade
How long have you been teaching? Been certified since 2007, hard to find a job in NYS. I am an assistant teacher still looking for a full time lead teaching position.
Will you take any time off after baby? Nope, cant afford too.
I'm a 2nd Grade Teacher at a Catholic School in CT. This is my 10th year teaching, and I love it! I'm due June 16th and the last day of school is the 13th right now (we'll see how many snow days get racked up this winter). If I take any time off, it'll probably only be that last week. Depends how big and uncomfortable I am.
Where do you work (State)? Texas
What do you teach? I'm the Media Specialist for PK-5th graders so I teach a bit of everything and especially 21st century information skills.
How long have you been teaching? 12 years (2 in current position)
Will you take any time off after baby? I have not decided, possibly 4 weeks. It definitely depends on if baby is late or early since it is due 3 weeks after summer starts and there are 10 weeks total of summer break.
Due June 29, 2014
June 2014 Mommies' January Signature Challenge: Throwback baby pic
This is my 7th year teaching....2nd in Colorado. I taught a self contained class of students with emotional disturbance in the south Bronx for 5 years before moving to Denver. Hardest job ever and I'm glad I'm not working there while pregnant!
I'm due the middle of June and school starts at the beginning of August here so I'll probably take a few weeks to a month off.
