Helpful Info, Maybe...

You all may already know this, but I didn't, and it's useful if it applies to you, so I thought I'd share:

A friend of mine is pregnant right now, too (due in Feb.) and told me that some insurance plans will cover a breast pump. So...check into it! Those suckers (pun intended) can be expensive, so if you can get one that's covered by insurance...why not!?

  • I just called my company yesterday and they also cover them.  A word of caution though, is that on Jan 1st, new laws might be causing the companies to change their policies.  Right now, my insurance will only reimburse if you buy after the baby is born.  The woman I talked to said she *thinks* they are changing that so that I could buy it beforehand and then submit the reimbursement claim after the baby is born, but she was not sure.  She is going to find out all the new details and let me know.  But be careful about anything that might change in your policy after the first of the year so you don't get screwed.

Interesting, thanks for the heads up! We have Cigna presently and when I called a month ago, they stated to submit my claim in March, they'll approve the claim, and I can pick up an Ameda Purely Yours or something like that before baby arrives so it's ready to do. Now we will be switching to Oxford Freedom on January 1st and I haven't called them yet.

  • Actually I believe it is because of the new laws that insurance companies are offering breast pumps.

  • I might look into it...although my insurance sucks. I hoping my mom still has both of hers laying around (one for home, one for work) since my youngest sibling is still a toddler.

That is probably true for a lot of companies.  Mine already was covering them, and any changes for the new year may have nothing to do with the new laws really.  It may just be that when they make changes in policies, they take effect from the beginning of the year.  Anyway, just make sure you are aware of any changes in your maternity coverage that could take place beginning next year.
