CD Question

Forgive my stupidity, I'm trying to google this one, but so many abbreviations are making my eyes tingle. I bought a lot of CD covers on Ebay (newborn size) and 4 of the 5 are Pro Wrap covers. Here's my question: Do I use a prefold inside of those? Or what do I need to buy for those? I'm trying to keep an inventory of what we have vs need to buy. Thanks in advance!!!

Re: CD Question

  • You can use a prefold or a fitted inside of a cover.
Thank you. I finally just did a google image search and got my answer. I was way over complicating things in my head!

or flats inside the cover.  The most popular choice among those three seems to be prefold.

The youtube videos cloth diapering 101 really helped me out.  You can also join the FB page  The Cloth Diaper Compendium! which is super helpful.

  • Covers are not absorbabt at all. They are just the part to keep the wetness in. So an absorbant part is needed inside - as others have said, either a fitted, prefolr, or flat.

Green Mountain Diapers sells the best prefolds IMO. We used those and Kissaluvs size 0 fitteds for the newborn phase (with prowraps and other covers on top).

  • The green mountain diaper fitteds are also super affordable! Check out the cloth diapering group here on the bump, too.

  • I love prefolds w covers for newborns then go to fitteds w covers or wool (I'm a professional knitter).

  • I can not find the answer to this question: I'm getting bits and pieces of info and can't figure it out. If I went with pockets is the shell waterproof and you just change the insert at a diaper change or do you change the whole thing? Does it need a cover?

Change the whole thing. They pee through to the insert.

  • Thanks ladies! It makes sense, I guess I'm trying to see the point in them! They seem like more work and much more bulky than other options.

Absorbency. You can add absorbency as needed.

This^^ and I still find them trimmer than prefolds with covers and some AIOs.

YES YES a thousand times YES!!!  GMD prefolds are the best out there.  Don't settle for less!  Ours still look amazing and brand new after 4 years.  They are super duper versatile too - not just for diapering bottoms!
  • I LOVE my flats.  They wash and dry so quickly and easily.  Last summer I was biking with DS along a lake.  We got 4 miles from our campsite and I realized that he was wet, and I didn't have a spare diaper (very poor planning by me).  I took off his diaper, thoroughly rinsed the flat in the lake until it had no urine smell, then hung it on a branch in the sun.  Twenty minutes later it dry and I put it back on him for the ride home!

Me too. I joined 2 weeks ago and I feel like my entire world changed. I took tons of stuff off the registry and I feel way more prepared for this journey.

They are also only one piece to put on, so they are basically just like disposables in that respect, making them easier for daycare providers, grandparents, or not-sold-on-the-idea daddies.

  • All in twos (ai2) like best bottoms would be another example of when you would (generally) only change the insert and not the shell.
