1st Trimester

Planning ahead...too soon?

For some reason I?m feel a bit superstitious about buying pregnancy books, cause I?ve only had the 1 beta and waiting for the call for my second now.I want to think positive, but realistically I know I should be cautious.

So at what point did you feel comfortable enough (4 wks, 6 wks, or more) to buy books and plan ahead?

Re: Planning ahead...too soon?

  • When I was pg with #1, I was cautious about buying baby stuff, maternity clothes, etc. But pregnancy books I bought right away!  I wanted to know everything that was going on.

  • I was given What to expect when Expecting by my SIL when i was 6 weeks.
  • I bought books the day I found out.  I'm not sure what you mean about planning ahead.  We've been planning since TTC.  I felt more comfortable after my first U/S when I got to see the heartbeat.
  • LOL i think I had a PG before I was PG. ?But I was interested in reading the "preTTC" information in them.?

I think other planning ahead stuff (looking @ baby bargains, car seat crib etc...) just the even ?THINKING about it has only started since i was 10 weeks. So i kind of KWYM. I think it is okay to just do what you feel comfortable with.. maybe check one out from the library?

  • i went out and bought 1 book the day i heard i had a pos blood test- no betas were given to me- it's whatever makes you feel most comfortable i guess- i feel like i am gonna jinx stuff too sometimes but then i tell myself i am being silly and to just go for it- in reality, it's fate that determines our destiny not buying a book - ya know?
  • I bought books pretty much immediately b/c they talk about what you are going through NOW. I don't think of books as being bought too early like some people think buying clothes and bedding and such is a jinx
  • I bought pregnancy books before I was actually pregnant but I probably won't buy anything for the baby until I am at least 20 weeks.

  • If you're apprehensive about purchasing anything baby-related just yet, you could always check out a pregnancy book from the library for the time being.
  • The second I found out I was pregnant with DD I was in the book store picking out books.  At the time we were away from home on an extended vacation, and she was a surprise, so I wanted information since I wasn't going to the OB's until the end of my 1st trimester.  I didn't do any other planning until we returned home and I had met with my OB to hear everything was going well.

  • I got What to Expect as soon as we decided to TTC, which was almost 4 months ago, and I also bought What to Expect in the First Year to try to "prepare" myself. I think books are a-OK to buy anytime. I also am getting some super nice maternity clothes for Christmas. i thought it was a little early, but my mom bless her heart, insisted & got such a kick out of seeing me try them on. We are, however, holding off on baby stuff until my first appt with the OB, which will be at 10 weeks.
  • 9 weeks after I saw the h/b a second time.  9 weeks is when I found out I miscarried our first baby and I really didn't want to get too excited until I felt comfortable this baby was going to have a nice, strong h/b at that point.  I slowly let go from there, but it took time.

  • I started reading as soon as I got my BFP. We are not buying anything for quite a while (especially not until we know what we're having) but I look at cribs, nurseries, strollers, etc. all of the time. I like to plan things and looking at cribs and strollers is fun for me.

  • I just bag of nerves?and should just stop by the book store on my way home.

As for ?planning? (doctors, insurance, etc.), I,m sure that can wait.

    Thanks for the support!!!!!

  • When we started TTC I bought a few pregnancy books and also ones on getting pregnant since I knew we would have problems.  So those don't worry me.  I won't buy anything else for awhile though.  DH said he wants to get me something for the baby for Xmas though since we didn't get each other anything.

  • I bought books at about 5 weeks.  I still haven't bought anything else, though.  Get a couple -- you'll want to be informed about what is going on.
  • I guess I like to plan ahead, because I bought 2 books when we started trying. I really wanted to know what to expect when the time came. I was glad that I had them when I found out I was pregnant!
  • I completely agree with being cautious early on.  I don't plan on buying any books or anything until we hear the heartbeat at my 8/9 week ultrasound.

  • After my confimation appt my insurance company called me to let me know about a 24 hour nurse line for pregnant moms. They mailed me a book so I havent had to buy one! :) this is the second time thought so I know a lot of what was in the books the first time around.
  • I bought some books right away, but I'm still too freaked out to buy anything else.
  • I won't buy any baby stuff until I'm well into the 2nd tri but I already bought my first book. I want to know what's going on and most books start with the first weeks of pg anyway. Plus, I'm a bookworm and need to read, lol!!!
