Re: Do fat babies sleep longer?

  • See now logically I would think fat babies eat more often hence being up more.

Yeah, the scientist in me thought of that too, but I decided to leave it to mommy perception.  I suppose we could do a more scientific poll by defining fat as >75% on growth and skinny as <25% but I didn't do that.

    Pollster fail.

  • My kid was 86% in weight his last checkup and this entire week he's been up nursing every 2 hours. He's never slept longer than 5 hours consecutively. FML.

  • Skinny baby, 17th% and STTN up to 8 hours this week. She eats like a piggy when she wakes at 6 am then sleeps until 8 and eats again, then eats every 2-3 hours throughout the day. I love my little squishy but I secretly wish I had a chunky baby...

Not a fail! I was just curious. LO is 2 months and has a pedi appt tomorrow, but his doc doesn't do 1 month visits, so I don't really have proof that my baby is fat. He just feels like it.

52 percentile, some nights we get 9 hrs waking up once in the middle. Other nights we're up every 2-3&1/2 hrs.

My chunk is 9 wks. Was 13 lbs 8 oz at her 8 week appt. Long though, 23/24 in. (She doesn't like stretching out for the MA.)

  • Apparently they need to be over 13 pounds to consistently STTN ... I have no citation except that's what our LC said.

  • Ellie is average to chunky and doesn't sttn. Although I usually get a 4 hour stretch. Sometimes 5.
  • Addy is pretty skinny, mainly because she is really tall, and usually sleeps 7-8 hours at night.

  • Greta is 5th percentile and has only sttn a handful of times. Only when well swaddled and only in her rnp (usually she sleeps in her crib).

I beg to differ, with a 12lb baby.  She STTN the first time at 4 weeks and approx 9lbs, did it consistently starting around 7 weeks and approx 10.5lbs, and now at 10 weeks she's doing 10-11 hour stretches consistently (like every night for the last 2 weeks, no exceptions) without waking.  I'm probably the best rested mama on Oct'13.  Feel free to share your hate and/or set off my smoke detectors all night.

  • He's in 90th percentile for ht and wt and only slept 5 hrs once, 4 hrs is more like it. He likes mommys milk. I may be over feeding, hmmm.... :-SS

Ew My kid STTN too, but I don't feel the need to be a total snatch about it.
Touché. I take it back. Karma will probably come for me soon.

Seriously annoying. My DS sleeps through the night but I don't feel the need to post 2 threads a day about it.

  • I go for the 2 month visit tomorrow and I know DS has got to at least be 15 lbs. Also, 4 hrs is the best I've ever gotten. The past few nights it's been every 2 hours at the longest with him waking up crying from gas before then normally. I am STTN bitter.

  • I have read/heard that they need to be 10 lbs at least to sleep a 5 hour stretch. I don't know where that comes from, but I've heard it more than a few times.

I will say that Francesca is WAY fatter than Josephine (95% vs 10ish% at 8 weeks) and Frankie sleeps way better than Josie ever did. I bedshare with both and nursed both so I think it has to do with their fat composition, at least in part.

LOL ... that's why I said I had no citation. Also, I am well over 13 pounds and haven't STTN myself in years. Maybe I need a swaddle? ;-)

My chunk has been 13lb since 5wks and the longest stretch was 5 hours. That has happened 2-3 times!

If we can call babies fat at 2 months old I think it's okay to call a fellow bumpie a snatch. Just saying.
