Questionable Names from Facebook

I like perusing these threads on other boards so I thought I'd try here. Any cringeworthy baby names popping up on your newsfeed lately?

I had a friend post her sister gave birth to a girl this week, and named her Austyn. Because the y makes it a girls name, OBVIOUSLY.

Also, someone decided to name their baby Brynlee, which is really cringeworthy to me. That sounds really made up and perpetually four years old. What's wrong with Brynn??

  • My aunt just gave birth to her third daughter a few weeks ago and named her Brynleigh AnnaMarie. Not a fan. :-q

Austyn and brynlee I'm not a big fan of tho.

    Slayd.

    It's horrible.

How are they pronouncing that? Like Slade? That's terrible.

  • A friend's husbands name is Michael, their first son is Michael Jr., and their second son is Marco. I forget their middle names, but Marco has the same, but basically the Italian version. I think it is just so conceited.

  • I have an acquaintance with Jagger and Jedi.
  • Fortunately most of my friends and relatives have sense.  There are a few babies with names that rhyme with Aiden.  Not my style, but that's just a sign of the times.

Me too! They were former coworkers.

I know friends of friends who did Charliegh- ugh. Someone else did Winslow for their daughter. I just can't get on board. Then again, we did Maeve for our daughter which isn't everyone's cup of tea but it's a legitimate female name with a lot of history. We get bonus points for spelling it correctly too.

I know a little Gunnar too. Really NMS.

Not sure; it's a friend on fb who lives back in New Zealand so I haven't herd it be pronounced. I would presume slade (slayed) not sure how else you could say it!
I originally read this like "salad" no like slade Eta: I'm also very tired and have re read it several times and maybe I was going a bit far with salad
  • I work with a girl whose nephew's name is Boss. Seriously. They call him Bossy. I just shake my head.

  • We meet some strange people at my nephews bday party a couple of years ago and their two boys names were Diesel and Tonka and she was pregnant with a third boy... And for the life of me I can't remember what they were going to name him!
  • Not particularly horrible name wise but I see so many people I went to high school with naming their babies the same name as the most popular girl in our class who had a relatively rare name. That makes me cringe. We graduated over 10 years ago

  • A friend named her boy Steel and girl is Wynter.
The boy was going to be named Pickett, but they went with Steel last minute.

Out of curiosity.. What was the name?
  • I know a 9 month old girl named Anistyn, because Mom loved the tv show Friends....
  • I work at a bank and as much as id like to say I made this up... I didn't.
A customer came in and his LEGAL name is Big Bad D.
    No freaking joke.
and he did not change it later in life... That was his given name from birth.
Are you for real!?! I didn't believe my boss at first but she knows the family personally and she said 100% that's his legal name.
  • We are naming our baby brynn!! I love the name but would never do byrnnlee. I have a friend who has a boy named Xander and just named their daughter xara. I have no idea how to pronounce it. As a teacher I am pretty sure I have seen it all. I kid you not I had twin boys named Iraq and Iran ahhh that parent should have been shot!

Usually names that start with X are pronounced with a Z (think Xerox) so that'd be Zander and Zara. Mostly I don't like that combo because I'm not a fan of matchy names. On their own they wouldn't be terrible.

  • My cousin has two nephews on his wife's side: Gunner and Shooter.

OMG. That sounds so redneckish and horrible!! I am imagining them just shooting little animals for fun! Maybe this is just me. I hope it is for the poor kids' sakes.
  • My nephew is "Branch". We make fun of his mom and call him twiggy lol

I've seen a few weird ones from
Substitute teaching too. "Justice" for a boy is a weird one.

Oh and a family member through marriage has a son named "Fox". Her other kids have weird names too but I can't remember them. I think the baby girls name is Annikan (Star Wars?)

  • MH and I have friends that named their daughter Austen (like Jane Austen) and I love it!! Kinda wish I had thought of it.
  • I've shared this one before, but I briefly dated a guy named Cloud in college. His female twin's name was Clover. They we're trust fund babies though with crazy art scene parents.

A woman in my old office shared that her baby's name would be Manning (after the FB players) if he were a boy. Happily she had a girl, and went with Eden (NMS but far more reasonable).

I've seen several trappers, gunners, hunters, shooters..

Also a Kreek, Kaidynce and Adylynn
  • Just saw this over the weekend on a birth announcement at a friends house…boys middle name…Lewellyn?  Is this a new fad? I was really confused because to me it sounds like Lou Ellen.

Haha. My moms bf is Richard Johnson. I snickered when I first heard that since I'm immature. She didn't get it and someone had to explain.

Llewellyn is a Welsh name, but I've only ever seen it as a last name. There was a prominent legal scholar with that last name, that's the only reason I know, haha.

I think I've said this in other name threads, but my high school biology teacher's name was Carol Dick, so it said C. Dick on her door. And her husband was named Richard too. Oy.

  • When I worked retail I had a very sweet little old man that used to come through my line all the time. He always used a credit card so his name came up on my screen. Peter Palmer. I almost laughed out loud the first time.
