Cleaning?

So I know your supposed to steer clear of some cleaning products while pregnant, however my husband is in the army and has been gone and well... Our shower needed to be cleaned!!! I used the scrubbing bubbles spray and put a shirt over my mouth to try and not breathe it in as much, but I still feel worried? Any other ladies cleaned with this and do you think it's okay?

Re: Cleaning?

  • At first I only cleaned with lemon and vinegar. It works on most things but frankly I need bleach and hard core shower cleaners. I just let the room ventilate and kept a rag over my nose. You'll be fine.

  • I don't clean the shower anymore (husband does it) because those scrubbing bubbles smell so bad! I think wearing a mask is a really good idea with that stuff!

  • Well, I'm sure you're ok. Now that it's done, you certainly don't have to worry about it.

We switched to cleaning with a vinegar/dish soap/water combo when I was pregnant with DD and have just continued b/c I don't like the idea of cleaning chemicals around DD now either. We just got a dollar store spray bottle, and fill it with half water, half vinegar, and a few drop of dish soap. I also add a couple drops of an essential oil for a nicer smell. It works really well and I use it to clean everything!

I just make sure the window or door is open.

  • Well, shit. One more thing I have screwed up. I haven't changed the way I clean anything.

  • Don't worry about it.  My H cares more about that stuff than me so he is the one who cleans the shower and I totally let him.

  • I still clean the same. My mom swears by baking soda to clean to tub so maybe you could switch to that?

  • I wouldn't worry about it. It's not as if you spent 3 hrs cleaning in an enclosed space. Just do a room or few items at a time, try to work quickly and then wash your hands. If they were that bad for you there would be warnings on them not to use while pregnant...
  • I use Norwex cleaning cloths. Chemical free!
  • Magic Eraser and water/vinegar gets my tub and shower super clean and shiny with no chemicals. I am super picky about housekeeping and I promise this works.

I don't think you did you or baby any harm but the smell of strong cleaners just makes me feel so ill.

I've been telling DH that I'm not allowed or supposed to use any sort of strong cleaners.  That may not be true, but it gets me out of heavy scrubbing =)
HA! Me too! I haven't had to "Clean" the bathroom other than just a quick wipe down of the counter or mirror since I have been pregnant. DH even bleached the floor for me because we were having company and it needed a good deep scrub! I feel a little bit guilty, but then again I hate doing the shower and scrubbing the floor so...
