What have you done that you shouldn't?

This might have already been posted but I'm going to my sil's party tonight and they will have ceviche... Which I love the way they make it with a chimichurri sauce and I want some! With my 1st pregnancy I was all by the book with this one, I am a bit more laid back. Don't know how bad that would be if I eat some.

Re: What have you done that you shouldn't?

  • If you're talking about food--I let Panera keep the feta on my mediterranean veggie sandwich. Mmm!

But I don't really eat prohibited food, normally.

  • I think* the citrus actually 'cooks' the fish in ceviche, so you may* be able to go crazy, guilt-free?!?!
PS--I poured Romano cheese all over my pasta last night even though the word 'pasteurized' was nowhere to be found on the label...
  • I was at a lunch-in after a funeral, and there was crumbled blue cheese on the salad. I was going to send it back, but decided to be "bad". I scooped off the big pieces to my SIL, but I ate the rest. And it was yummy.
  • Caffeinated soda, cold cut sandwiches, coffee, I'm sure there's other things. I did it last pregnancy too, I even took sudafed occasionally (gasp!) and DD is completely fine.

  • I've had a few sips of wine, and many cold deli meat sandwiches.
  • Everything mentioned except blue cheese and ceviche.

I feel particularly guilty about having an black espresso 5 days in a row last week :'(
  • Diet soda (rarely, but I have had some here and there) and coffee. I've had one deli meat sandwich since my BFP but I am still kinda funny about it.

FTM obviously - I am overthinking it ;) lol

  • I've had cooked sushi and have heated up my ham and cheese sandwiches (can't eat them cold normally). I still have coffee and soda, but only one cup a day. I've also had tuna. Everything has been in moderation though, and even though I've had a sip of DH's beer a few times, I don't think I'll have a full glass of alcohol.
  • A half glass of red wine (I was in the 2nd trimester) at dinner once and diet soda. I had feta before I knew it was a bad thing.

  • I tried all first tri to be good but then I started craving ham sandwiches bad last week so I went for it and bought a half pound of my favorite brown sugar ham. I don't regret it.

  • Probably broke just about every "rule" - except no drugs.

  • Lol thanks ladies! Well shoot I've had cheeses, coke and antibiotics so I guess I will eat the ceviche. I'm not a coke person but lately it tastes good! So I've Been drinking 1/2 of one everyday, I really need to lay off
  • Diet soda (I'll be switching back to regular once we run out of our current stash) and deli meat are the most.  I had seared tuna when I was in Hawaii and I don't regret it a single bit, it was the best damn meal I've ever eaten.
  • If you're talking food, I haven't broken too many rules as far as I know, but I'm also ignoring pretty much all of them, in moderation.

On the weekend, I helped my husband get a couple pieces of drywall on the ceiling of our attic. I'm sure there's a few people who would say that such heavy lifting is a big no-no, but there was no one else around to do it, and baby didn't seem to mind.

  • Soft cheeses....I love feta, blue cheese, and goat cheese. I've also had some caffeine. I also order my steak medium (although I really want it medium rare) instead of well done.

  • I had a small piece of tiramisu. When I was on the last bite, I remembered it has Grand Marnier in it and proceeded to freak out. I didn't tell DH becuase I didn't feel like being scolded for my pregnancy brain.

  • Steak cooked medium, blue cheese, and diet soda. Craving wine but when I actually had some it didn't taste right, bummer!

Pfft. I won't even say all of what I've done, but I do put my car heated seats on high every day - and I'm sure that's probably a no-no. I also eat hoards of feta cheese...had no idea that was bad. I had a glass of wine the other day - a tall one.

Edit - oh yeah, I love diet pepsi so that's daily- and I had a roast beef something or other from Arby's last week. I'm sure there's a million other things I could add.
  • Every time I run my heart rate goes over 150.  I let it get to the upper 160's normally before slowing down because I am still talking, and not feeling over-exerted.  Most of the reading I've done says max out at 150, my dr. said max out at 150, but like 2 blog posts have said its ok as long as I'm not over tired or wheezing.

As far as food, I had some chicken deli salad at my work's holiday party the other day.  I think that is honestly the only forbidden food I've had.

You should be more worried about the raw egg yolk and espresso used to make it... Most places don't use alcohol to make it and if they do its not a large amount. (We're talking teaspoons) I'm sure its fine though. You said you had a small piece. Everything in moderation!

  • I've had raw fish sushi, diet soda with caffeine, some goat cheese, and a few sips of beer or wine here or there (not much at all).

I'm living dangerously!  I'm honestly just not that worried.

I was doing super HIIT on the treadmill before I got pregnant...I have switched it up to power walking with incline intervals but my heartrate usually goes up to 160 with every interval, but it's only for a couple of minutes and then I slow down for 3 to get it back down quickly.

I have had plenty of deli meat sandwiches, I have had a few sips of wine here and there, I took a sip of a friends chocolate alcoholic drink...I think it had Baileys and Kaluah but I literally didn't even take a big enough drink to swallow any of it, just a tiny taste. I plan on having a small glass of wine or champagne over Christmas and New Years. I eat my steak medium rare, more on the side of rare. Steak is not as big of a deal because the bacteria grows on the outside, so if the outside is sufficiently cooked, chances are super low of any food-borne illness. Hamburger meat is the bigger culprit, because the steak or roast gets ground up and all of the bacteria becomes mixed in. I have also probably eaten more jalapeno potato chips in the last 3 months than I have in all my life.

  • Canned tuna, sushi, occasional sips of DH's beer or small glass of wine, bologna, coffee, bubble bath....and I don't feel one bit guilty about it either.
  • @kk627 wouldn't the alcohol content get baked out of tiramisu, but the flavor remain? I guess I don't know how it's made.

I'm a FTM and have not been very careful at all. Although I haven't had a glass or half glass of wine, I try sips of people's drinks if it looks interesting. Not worried. I've had coffee and tea here or there, tons of soft cheese and cold lunch meats. I never check anything to see if it's pasteurized. I used topical acne products you're not supposed to, I'll probably dye my hair. I guess I'm skeptical of all these rules, and feel that my constant worrying about the rules and what i've done are waaaay worse for the baby than a few sips of wine and some lunch meat.

Tiramisu isn't baked. Basically you soak the lady fingers, layer and refrigerate.

Thanks! That would be why it tastes so strongly I guess.
  • Man like I said this my second and my daughter will be 21 months this month but I completely forgot the do's and dont's of pregnancy. There are a lot of things you guys mentioned that I need to read up on and see why it's bad... Like the bubble bath...
  • If you're talking about food--I let Panera keep the feta on my mediterranean veggie sandwich. Mmm!

    Me too!!!!!!
  • Hot bath, painted the nursery(did with my first as well), pop pretty much every day, deli meat, barely worked out at all, I'm sure there's more as well...
  • Ate delicious sushi, a Coke every other day or so, a latte or two a week, oh I annihilated a hard salami and cheddar cheese plate, then realized salami is probably on that no-no list. Use my seat warmers in my car every morning. Oh well... There are WAY worse things out there. Baby shouldn't crave these things, then there'd be fewer issues ;)

  • Caffine, deli meat, rare steak, raw sushi. Hot baths. I'm a wimp when it comes to cold weather and lately baths are the only thing that can warm me up.

Yea, I'm not horribly worried about the food stuff.  I had a turkey sandwich for lunch yesterday.

That being said, someone in my lab at work works with Listeria so I am now not allowed to step foot in my lab and had to be put in another lab.  Also, I apparently "should have told them earlier"...jeez, not like I'm eating it people...  The good part being, I'm getting a whole bunch of equipment bought just for me to use all by myself.  No sharing!!

Apparently DH worked with Listeria in his lab last time I was pregnant and never told me he just washed his hands well before coming home. Thanks a lot DH! It is crazy small bump world that you are now working in DH's old lab.

  • Oh I just shampooed the carpet in the nursery to with carpet shampoo so I guess I can add that to my list too!
  • Just had a lovely meal of crackers, pasteurized Brie cheese and strawberries with my weekly glass of red wine. Sanity=Saved!

  • Sushi, hot baths, unpasteurized cheese. Hasn't even thought seat WArmers in car were a problem. It's 9 degrees here so I've been using them.
  • Bacon...Hot Baths...Pop ("Soda")

These threads always make someone come out of the wood-work and yell about what bad mothers we are...let's see what happens...
I <3 you for putting Pop (soda). My BFF and I always have an argument. We are Canadian and her bf is American and he calls it soda so she does too.
I don't know why it irritates me so much lol
  • A few cans of pepsie max, other caffeinated diet soda in moderation, a few deli meat sandwitches, some raw cookie dough, a half cup of coffee a few days, and definitely got my heart rate above 160 on a run today. I don't sin everyday but don't freak out when I do. Everything in moderation. I also just assume the cheese is pasturized and plan on eating cold summer sausage and salami around Christmas.
