I gave my son autism. Discuss.

Re: I gave my son autism. Discuss.

  • She is so self-consumed--that's what made it hard for me. "I gave my son autism waaaaaaahhhhhhhh." Sweet Jesus, lady--get a grip. It was all just so self-indulgent and gross. I'm guessing that she is not in therapy, which might ease her psychological pain from both her fibromyalgia and her insane amount of mommy guilt.
    That's EXACTLY what I was trying to say. You said it better!

  • I just want to say I am thrilled by everyones responses here. It means, even if you agree with somethings, youre all smart enough not just to take her word on it. Im a pharmacist and on a regular basis i get 'but doctor phil said!' And 'i read online that' and i just want to scream sometimes. Does modern medicine have every answer? No. But dont just take someone elses word for it. No one person has all the answers. Especially someone that is an all or nothing radical. Its more likely to be somewhere in the middle.

    Was it the part where I said, "Sweet Jesus, lady--get a grip"?? Hope so. :)

    I did enjoy that part...but I can't decide between that, "waaahhhhhhhhhh" and "self-indulgent and gross."

  • Be offended all you want, but I can only hope that a woman googling "what causes autism" will find the intelligent responses here instead of reading that article and believing she caused the disorder in her own child.

    These things are worth discussing.

  • Omg don't even get me started. All of her arguments are crap. And they're all, especially the vaccine argument, correlated studies, not causation. The general public doesn't always get the difference, but it's pretty important. People need to stop blaming themselves or others. If your child has autism it's difficult, but it happens. Don't blame yourself for it happening. I worked with autistic children briefly and they're wonderful.

    @BPaws Thank you for sharing!
