Ultrasound day!

Our anatomy scan was today and went great! Baby is measuring at 21w 1 day, right on target.. And is 14oz. We didn't want to know the sex of the baby, and I'm glad the baby didn't accident reveal it to us ;) I still can't seem to add photos from my cell, but we got a few photos. Not as many as I expected, baby was being super stubborn and was face down and had its back to us lol.

I had the discussion with my OB that we are interested in having a home birth and I asked if she was open to shadow care, should I have to transfer back to a dr from my midwife...she didn't seem to want me there from what my wife and I both gathered. She didn't say much about the subject at all...not sure what to make of the experience. At this point I guess we will continue seeing my midwife and hope I won't need to transfer to a dr at any point... And if I do I will likely just end up where is closest to home, unless the midwife has a recommendation.

  • Sounds like you had a great appointment, with the exception of the OB's reaction to working as a back up to your midwife. I'm sure it will all work out in the end.  I'm also hopefully going to be moving toward  sole care from a midwife (or midwife team) in the coming weeks.  We'll see how my OB feels about that...
  • Awesome news - so glad that the appointment went well and that baby is doing great! Your little one will be here befoer you know it! :)

  • @Jazibel good luck! I wanted to have drs on hand as a back up as i understand sometimes a home birth isn't possible. I wanted to keep an ongoing relationship with the OBs and of course see my midwife as well. Their are two OBs in the practice so I plan to talk to the other one next month and then decide if i need to fully leave the practice. I also plan to see if my midwife has someone she would recommend as a back up, she comes for my home visit Monday.

  • @YBnormal85 - I did it a similar way with Kaden, I saw my midwife since the beginning and my OB (different OB this time since we moved).  When I was 34-36ish weeks I moved primarily into my midwifes care. I went out on early leave due to sciatic pain per my midwifes recommendation. Our State Disability office wouldn't accept the midwifes signature solely so the OB had to complete the forms as well. Luckily he was very gracious and their office helped out with all the paperwork. (From what I understand midwifes can authorize normal level due to pregnancy and birth "disability" but not an early or extended leave for other medical reasons even if they are related to pregnancy/birth). So even though I ended up birthing at home I was glad to have the OB as back up.

I'm hoping my current OB will be as easy to work with, I'm also hoping for a home-birth this time.

I can't believe your 21 weeks!!  (that means I'm right behind you - time is flying by).  :-)
