Pregnant after IF

Anxiety + Possible delivery date .

So I've been in the hosptial since Monday and I have severe anxiety. When I'm alone, I cry. I'm anxious not knowing when she will be delivered. Im anxious b/c I have NO control over the situation. The babys room hasn't been completed (we need to paint, clean, organize). The craddle is not assembled. The crib hasn't been delivered. Yikes! I have my mothers help which is amazing. She washed some of her clothes, she's been waiting on me hand and foot. I know she will have no problem going to my house and helping DH get things together.

My OB came in (after NST & U/S & Doppler was done) said he wants to deliver at 34 weeks which is Sunday, but he wants to schedule it for Tuesday. He said if nothing goes wrong prior then tuesday. Then he confuses me and says that if MFM says to wait, then he'll postpone. Ultimately he'll be here Monday, and he will let us know for sure Monday.

I need to get it together I can't stop crying. We still need:
Crib sheets
Craddle mattress pad
Fleece blankets
Possibly premie clothes
Breathable bumper
Breast pump
Extra car seat base

I'm sure there's more, I just can't think.
Uhhhhhhhhhhh!

Re: Anxiety + Possible delivery date .

  • First, take a deep breath. I completely understand that you are feeling overwhelmed. I felt this way even though I made it to my due date. But please trust me when I saw that babies don't need very much! A little story for you...A friend of ours moved away after graduate school but came back to walk for graduation. She was about 34 weeks, but the doctor gave her the OK to travel. While she was here, the night of graduation, her water broke and she went into labor. They had nothing here! Everyone rallied around them and they were able to get the essentials (car seat, some warm clothes) to take baby back to Wisconsin. And everything was okay.

I know you are feeling a lot of fear about your baby's arrival, but she won't need much! I've had many friends complete the nursery after baby came. Once you see your precious girl, your anxieties about making everything perfect won't matter. You'll see her sweet face and it'll all be right. Your mom will help and you'll be amazed at how it comes together. :) Big hugs!!

  • Sending lots of love and calm thoughts. Take a deep breath. Just think about the fact that your'e about to look into your baby's eyes very soon. I second the PP by saying that baby's don't need as much as we thinking they do! This is especially so in the beginning.

If your mom and hubby make a quick run to Target/Walmert/Etc. they can get everything you need for the first few months. If your'e crib's not ready, no worries...pack and play works wonders. Worry about the crib sheets, bumper later when the crib arrives. Don't worry about extra car base, it's not like you guys are going anywhere other then doctor's apts for the first few weeks, especially with a premie. I bet you can rent a breast pump from the lactation center at the hospital. Steal an few extra blankets from the hospital :)

Also, have your hubby sign up for a free trial of amazon prime and get everything delivered to your house in 2-3 days! If you have a laptop in the hospital (which I assume you do since your'e writing to us lol), keep your mind off things by online shopping! Shopping is great medicine.

    Sending lots of hugs.

  • Thanks so much! I keep reflecting back on the IF journey and I just wanted things to be perfect for her when she gets here. I agree, the essentials we have definitely. And my mom has a complete nursery set up at her house. So I'm just trying to relax so she can hang out until next week.

She will have two loving parents who waited a very long time for her...and other doting family.  What more could a little girl need?

Very true! Thanks you ladies are awesome! !

  • You will do great when you get home with her, whether you have all those things on your list. She mostly just needs you. One thing I wanted to mention that might help. When DS was an infant, he had ridiculous reflux and projectile vomiting. Because the pediatrician wanted to be extra cautious to avoid the risk of him choking on vomit while sleeping, she asked me to have him sleep in his car seat rather than the crib for the first six months. He literally never slept in his crib until he was six months old! He was in his car seat next to my side of the bed, and I swear it made him into an outstanding sleeper to this day. I think it made him feel all bundled up and safe to be cuddled up in there. So if you don't have a crib, you can always let her sleep in her car seat and she will be just fine. Oh, also, I didn't pump for a couple of weeks after DS was born since I was just nursing him each time. I don't think I really used it until I went back to work. So maybe that can wait a bit too, if needed. I'm glad you are keeping us posted!

  • That's awesome! We have a pack and play, cradle, and crib is being delivered Jan 8th. Its just a matter of getting everything together. Thanks for your input. Hopefully she sleeps good in the cradle or pack and play, if not, she's going in her car seat! Lol.

  • Take a deep breath! Everything will get done! Even without the crib set up, the baby will have a place to sleep and I am sure she won't be complaining about it!

Just think about how wonderful it will be to meet your baby girl next week! :)

  • Deep breaths. The good news is that there is not a single thing on your list that you need.

One twin's sac ruptured at 31 weeks, and I spent a week in the hospital before delivery at 32 weeks. It was very unexpected so I had so much that wasn't done. You know what? Not a single thing mattered, and I'm very type A.

We had car seats and cribs, and we ordered the pack n plays from the hospital. The nursery still isn't done, but they aren't sleeping in there yet.

And 34 weeks is a huge milestone for development. In our NICU, that was barely premature and the babies'' outlooks were outstanding.

It will all be ok. The unknown is scary, but take a deep breath and do not let these little things give you anxiety.

  • Sorry you are struggling- it sounds like a tough situation! I can sort of relate as we are sort of on edge waiting for baby to come any second since our early labor scare. When I sat back to think about it I realized all I really needed was some nursing stuff (tanks/bras/pads) and a few outfits and blankets for the baby. It did help me sort of think about that and order those things to have ready. I think wanting to have the nursery ready is the natural nesting thing- I had a meltdown yesterday about LOs nursery not being ready though I know she won't even be there right away. I think it's just the natural way to get ready. Maybe try to focus on what things you can do to get ready- order what you can online and make lists and ask friends/family to do essential tasks. But all the essentials will be taken care of by the hospital at first so try to relax and rest as much as you can (I know easier said than done for sure!) Keep us posted- we are rooting for you!

  • I can totally understand your anxiety- you are in a difficult and stressful situation.  Being in the hospital sucks and laying around all day drives me batshit!  Your doctor sounds like he was confusing too, not knowing what will happen or when it will happen is sure to send your anxiety level through the roof!
I hope you are able to have lots of visitors to keep you occupied during the day. I agree with PPs about trying not to stress over your list of things you need to acquire. However, if you have internet access maybe you can try to keep yourself occupied by shopping for some of this stuff online.
As for everything else, I can tell you to try not to stress out about it but I know that's impossible.  My advice is to distract yourself from thinking about it as much as you can.  Try to set goals to complete mini-projects you can do from bed each day like balancing your bank account, addressing your Xmas cards, cleaning out your purse and wallet, emailing friends and family you need to catch up with, etc. It always makes me feel better to accomplish something everyday. Then keep yourself distracted with leisure activities like watching movies, reading, playing on FB or pinterest, etc. Send out a text or FB message to friends letting them know you would really like some visitors. Hopefully this will help to distract you and keep your anxiety in check.
I am sending lots of happy and relaxing thoughts your way!  We are definitely rooting for you!

  • Thanks guys. I really am going to make a checklist for myself over the weekend so I don't to nuts here. My family is celebrating my uncles birthday Saturday night, I'm nit upset about it because if I were out, I wouldn't have gone (too much drinking and cigarette smoke). Dh is still stressing about any and every thing. He doesn't know how to deal with stress at all, so I am just trying ti stay calm. I have the absolute worse heartburn, it keeps coming up and down, I can't sleep.
I am truly looking forward to days to come. I am praying that my princess will come home soon and be safe. Ob said he delivered a 35 weeker last night and they had no Nicu time, and his goal for me is no Nicu time as well. So we'll see what happens.

Thanks ffor the checkups, it makes this hospital stay less stressful.
