I hate thank you cards. I hate writing them, I hate receiving them. I think they're a waste of time and paper. I understand sending them to out of town family/friends or for big events where you can't tell everyone thank you, but for birthdays and such where you have an opportunity to say thank you in person and really mean it, I don't understand the purpose of the card later. We never did them growing up in my family. As an adult now I know it's good etiquette and I do it anyway but I really hate it.

I don't understand why you hear people say, the night before their wedding, it's their last night as a single person. I was not single the night before my wedding. I was engaged, and before that, dating. We took a picture the night before our wedding as our last picture as an unmarried COUPLE, not two single people. Maybe there's a reason that this makes sense to some people, but I don't understand it AT ALL.

I think it's crazy when parents flat out lie to their older kids (over 10) when they ask about Santa. We do Santa for fun, but I don't go to great length for deception, and if a middleschool age kid comes and asks me if it's real, I'm not going to lie. I mean come on? What logical 11 year old is still going to believe in a magic elf unless their parents are flat out lieing to them. Drives me crazy

I may be guilty of this. I'm from New England and went to Pats games on occasion growing up, but didn't get into football until college, at which point becoming a Pats can felt bandwagon-y. I was in Philly for school, so I sorta was an Eagles fan. My DH loves the Giants, and since I was never a real fan of any team, I'm now a 1/3 Pats/Eagles/Giants fan. Really I just like a good game.

The creepiness will go away eventually and then you'll actually miss it when baby is here. I know everyone says that and I was all like "alien" baby in me is moving the first time until I caught myself missing it after K was born. It's still weird though!

As a FTM I have no desire to take any child birthing classes. I know what happens, I know what I want, I know things may go completely opposite of what I had planned. I know a lot of people say it's more for DH, but he wants a newborn care class. I can't find one anywhere.

Hubby used one of their songs to propose. I forever love them now. I never thought/knew they had a big "grown women" following. I'm 20 and I don't know a lot of "older" people who love them. But there will always be younger men/women who like people who are older and older men/women who like people younger.

@mamamonzo Ask your doctor next time you see her or him. Often OBs have a list of good recommendation for things like this. They're not the easiest thing to find sometimes.

Holy judginess. Heaven forbid they pump money into the team.

Also, you are an alum even if you didn't graduate. I worked calling people asking for donations when I was doing a degree. Non-graduates were on the list. I didn't graduate from this school either and they ask me for money as well. (It was a post-graduate degree and this school is a bit of a money vulture.) Trust me, universities happily consider you an alumnus if you only attended :-D

They actually offer one for free through my hospital so I lucked out there.

I think that can be a regional/cultural thing. Here in Ky it's all BBN and not everyone graduated from UK. In some areas it's a way of life, so to say.

I'm with you...I don't allow gossip and trash into my life. I honestly do not care about celebrity lifestyle. I do not read the magazines and I do not keep up with all of Hollywood via fake , I mean, reality tv and surfing the web. Too much time and energy to waste on people that don't matter to me.

on here when you are talking about babies I agree. As babies they have not made a gender decision or let it be known what their gender is, so we as parents pretty much choose it for this at this point and usually go with genitals, female genitalia = female.

HOWEVER, at the point where they are able to determine for themselves who they are, what they are, how the feel gender and sex can be different and thus not interchangeable. Gender is a social construct and Sex are anatomical definitions.

My UO is that I don't agree in children having huge, elaborate, expensive birthday parties ever, but especially before the age of maybe 4-5 when they're old enough to ask for a birthday party.

I received invitations to 4 birthday parties this weekend, 4!!! The oldest kid is turning 2. And all are at rented out places that I know are costing my friends $500+ for 2 hours of a party. It's just ridiculous to me. Your kid is NEVER going to remember this party so why bother.

DH and I are all for mom and dad and maybe grandma/grandpa at home for a small birthday, some homemade cake and pizza and maybe a small gift until our kids are at least 5. Done. I never had a "big" birthday party until I was 10 and I turned out just fine

Yes!!! And to all of those women that pretend to like the sport when it rolls around every year...please, for the sake of true fans, stop! If you don't care to know anything about football at the beginning of the season each year, you will not impress anyone by wearing a Packers Jersey to a friends super bowl party. Just give it up, go back to getting your nails done while indulging in the latest People magazine. Harsh? Maybe, but so true. And if you really are a fan of the greatest sport ever, you know exactly what I mean!

Tell that to my IL's. They are HUGE Alabama fans. Neither went to school there but they sure dump a shit ton of their money to get season passes, donations, etc. I find it a little weird but that's just me. I was never into football before I started dating DH, so naturally I started supporting Alabama because of his family. However, I would never be obsessed with it.

@porterlove525 agreed! I had a coworker throw this huge first birthday party for her daughter. She rented a bouncy castle a BOUNCY castle , a dj, had the cake professionally made, the works.

Why spend that much? Save it for later when the child wants to have an amusement park party or something.

Until they are old enough to tell me what they want themselves, its picnic in the park. and Even after they are old enough, it'll be X themed picnic in the park lol until they are much older and able to really enjoy an expensive party. even then I don't see myself renting a place out. maybe an event room at the bowling alley...

dani+california: 3D ultrasound pics: TERRIFYING! My baby girl looks like her face is melting off! I hate it! She also looks like she has angelina jolie lips...not necessarily a bad thing, but really really weird.

and I love my girls little kicks, but when she does a somersault and I can feel her rolling around, it definitely is weird, and I have a hard time containing my facial expressions.

I feel the same way when people get corrected for saying they went to their 20 week u/s to find the sex. No shit, that's not the MAIN purpose of the scan but can someone just say they wanted to get the scan so they can find out the sex without getting flamed/corrected?

Okay, this may spike some controversy but this is just how I feel.

I think it's stupid when people get judged for rehoming a pet that is aggressive, especially towards their kids. I know that's not a likely scenario but it is in our home right now. We just adopted a dog, she is a female GSP and she has been wonderful. However, there have been some instances where she has been aggressive towards me and DD; showing teeth, growling, even snapping at us. I have corrected her each time but knowing in the back of my mind that she has been aggressive towards DD makes me very nervous to keep her around.

I keep my eye on her, especially around DD as best as I can, but things happen. I would just hate for her to snap at DD, or worse her bite her and cause permanent damage. Now, I'm not saying I'm kicking her out of the house right away. I'm going to keep an eye on her and keep trying to correct the situation, as well as teach DD to be more careful around her but if this persists, you bet your sweet ass she is getting rehomed.

YES!! This also drives me crazy on the college level, too! I went to one school, my SIL did not go anywhere, nor did her H (my BIL). Yet she is a DIE HARD, and I mean DIE HARD fan of my university's rival.

I honestly don't bring up football ever b/c it's not my thing, but she (and her kids, in whom she's instilled her mania) are always talking crap about my school's football team to me and LOUDLY cheering against them when a game is on at family gatherings!

My sister in law had her first kid in may and their dog is nasty! She's wanted to get rid of him since she wa pregnant but her husband wants to "work with him more". He has to stay in the kitchen at all times because he will be fine one second and then something will set him off and he will snarl, snap, and attack the other dog or whoever is in the room.
I love dogs and I know they should only be put out for extreme reasons, but her first kid is crawling and she's pregnant with the second. If the baby crawls to the gate and sticks his had near the dog, who knows what will happen! If it was me, that dog would have been gone a LONG time ago. I've already told SO any signs of aggression from either of our dogs, and they are gone.

@snmetz7, the bowling alley would be awesome. I love bowling! Plus at most of the bowling alley's in Beantown adults can drink thus ensuring I can tolerate screaming teenagers, ha.
