Random Question- Dry Nose

Does anybody have suggestions on what to use for extremely dry stuffy nose (on the inside). I have a severely deviated septum hence my nose gets very dry with the winter heater. Usually the humidifier helps and keeps it in control but this time due to pregnancy it is worse. Its bleeding all the time and hurts real bad. I don't see my OB until next week so was wondering if there are any home remedies I could explore in the meanwhile? I was thinking of getting the saline nasal spray OTC at the pharmacy.

  • I have this problem in a big way! Bleeding, painful, stops me from sleeping. I bought saline nasal spray and a humidifier. It's way better now!

  • Mine is horrible right now! It's all dry and bloody, inside. I have been putting the humidifier right next to me and basically inhaling water each time I breathe throughout the night and it seems to help a little bit.

  • Ok ladies, this is the BEST!!!! Promise!!

You'll need Q-tip, Vaseline or Antibiotic Ointment put the ointment on the q-tip and swipe it around inside your nose. It'll feel gunky and weird for a little while, I normally do this at night. I swear by the results though!!!

I had chronic bloody noses as a kid, and my pedi suggested this, it helps greatly!

  • My MW/OB office, and the ENT that I saw last year, all said to avoid the nasal sprays like Afrin, but that a simple saline spray (I think mine's called Ocean or something) would be fine.  They even make a saline nose gel.

Prepregnancy, I used a nasal gel called Nose Better - I think it was saline based, but it also had some eucalyptus oil in it to help open the passages.  I haven't used it because I can't find anyone who says it'd be okay (granted, no one's said that it wouldn't, but I'm erring on the side of caution when in doubt).

  • OMG what would I ever do without you ladies! Thank you.

@Madisonpenny thank you- thats good to know. If it got any worse I will not be able to breathe at all

MissDemeanornoconalove  I sleep with the humidifier right next to me as well but it does not help. And I have a very high end one too

@dunvilles thanks- I am going to try q-tip with Vaseline tonight as see if it helps

  • I'm dealing with the exact same thing!! Woke up with a nose bleed this morning too. I bought the saline spray a few weeks ago and found it helped a little, but not much. I haven't been using it regularly though. We also just got a humidifier so I'm hoping this will help. To sleep better at night, I got the breathe right strips. They let me sleep soooo much better. Of course, as soon as I take it off in the morning, my nose is back to being stuffed, but at least I can sleep without having a dry mouth from being a mouth breather.

  • Same problem here too.....nose is bleeding three nights in the row and SO dry. I used nasal strips last night for stuffiness but haven't really seen the results. Need to try the qtip thing, maybe with coconut oil instead of vasiline!

  • Honestly I have a tube of plain Chapstick that I twist around in there sometimes when im extra dry. Sounds weird but it works and would be less goopy than Vaseline :)
  • Ladies- I woke up much better this morning. I used a Vaseline and it worked like a charm. I am not completely healed but at least I did not wake up stuffed and bloody. Perhaps a couple days of Vaseline remedy will bring me back to normal.

Thank you for all the tips!

  • That is awesome! Glad you are feeling better.
