Driving a mini van

In September I got a new Subaru Outback as my company car. I love it!! Of course it was wrecked last week and I've been driving a rental. It's a brand new fully loaded mini van! I swore we would never ever have a mini van but dang this thing has everything and its got so much room! I kinda see the mini van attraction now. :)

I hope I don't get a "cool story dude"

  • Kidding. They do seem nice but I just don't think I'm ready for that plunge quite yet, lol.
  • @stna2012 LOL on the fancy nancy!
  • @asbromle I knew you were joking ;)
I kinda don't want my car fixed until after Christmas so we can drive the van to Ohio and fit the pack n play and gifts in there. But the Subaru is AWD. The Acura RDX is our other car and it has less room than the Subaru. @Stina2012 I think husband wishes we would have gotten the Audi q5 now instead of the Acura. He is a fancy nancy too. He wouldn't even look at Hondas or Toyotas. It had to be Acura or Lexus.

  • I hear ya! I always said I would never have a van but we bought a brand new one when ttc baby #2 almost 4 years ago and its awesome! I always say that I hate to love it. I would totally get another one. I love it even more with each child. It's just so easy and I love that the doors slide instead of opening it so there are no door dings.

  • I had one for about 6 years.  That thing was plush...it had everything!  Much more comfortable than my Navigator.  It was a lot easier getting kids in and out, too.  I do miss it once in a while.
  • @Silv3rlining my last comp car was a Prius! I loved that car so much!

  • We've had one for several years before having kids, but ours is handicap accessible for my DH. I swore up and down I'd never get one. Now I can't imagine living without it.
  • haha, I have heard that many people who swear they will never get a mini van end up loving them--I've had several friends/family tell me they love theirs, but I am still holding off :)  We have an 8 passenger Pilot, though it's kind of hard to use the third row since we can't put down the seat to get back there, with DS1's carseat on the second row seat that folds down.

Now what I would REALLY love is an Escalade with captain's seats in the second row (like my friend who is BEYOND a "fancy nancy" has!) so that the kids could be in their carseats but others could get into the third row (kinda like the minivan set up, but not a mini van!).

  • I went from a Mini Cooper convertible to my Toyota sienna. And I LOVE IT SO HARD.
I hit a button, door slide open like I'm parting the seas. Kids are trained to jump in and start putting on seat belts. It holds everything. I couldn't even dream of doing 4 kids in car seats in a SUV.

I refuse to be the minivan mom. So I got a six passenger suv with room behind the third row. It's as close to a minivan I could get without getting one. Lol. DH thinks I'm weird for having such an aversion.

To be fair we're done having kids and the third row folds down so it's actually really convenient. We can fit EVERYTHING in that thing.

Same here, I just got a Honda Pilot and friggin love that thing. Its gianormous and has the optional third row, but is still an SUV and not a mini van.

Yup. This. Got a 2013 Sienna in May, love it. When we bought it we tested out SUVs just to be sure, and the minivan had WAY more room, both in terms of leg room and storage.

I want a minivan someday but DH hates them. I showed him this video hoping to change his mind. I'm a dork.

  • I love my minivan so much I wanna marry it and have like baby minivans with it.

Right?! I told Dh that I had no clue it was my dream car. I'd kiss it if I kept it cleaner...
  • I swore I'd never have one. But, after three kids, you can't beat the room, options and mileage for the price. I love it. I actually take it places, even when I don't have the kids. :)
  • We got a Microvan (Mazda 5) right before my 35th b-day when I was pg with DS2. I never wanted a minvan, so I had a little bit of an identity crisis. We knew we wanted 3 kids though and worried about getting 3 car seats across the back of a station wagon. The Mazda 5 was definitely the right choice, it is so compact, only 2 " longer than my old Sentra, so it is still easy to parallel park.

I still miss my stick shift though. :(
