May 2014 Moms

If you didn't live where you are now....where would you like to live?

I live on Long Island.  Commutable to the NYC because that is where I work.
BUT, if it were closer and commute was better...I'd love to live in Connecticut.  Perfect mix of country and city for me...and lower taxes.

I lived in LA for a time and didn't love it.

I also would entertain down south in South Carolina or Chicago if we had jobs lined up.

It's depressing the COL sometimes in these parts.

Then again, I could be all talk and freak out if I left my bubble.

I would live in Scotland in a heartbeat if I could. I've already researched skill sets in demand there and not sure DH and I would be top priority to let move there lol. My sister is currently living in a small town in Fife but I am thinking I'd prefer right in Edinburgh.

I could also easily live somewhere on the east coast of Canada.

  • I'm torn between somewhere that has a beach and is normally always warm (preferably near the Tampa, FL area) or somewhere that actually experiences MORE of the seasons, maybe somewhere in New England like Vermont or Connecticut?

I live in GA, and I really do love living in the south as a general rule though.

  • I live in Cambridge and I love it. I think this will remain our home base, at least for the forseeable future.

If we did move within the US, we'd probably look into Brooklyn (super close to my family, many friends live there) or San Francisco (where my partner was born).

Before I found out I was pregnant, I was looking into applying for a year-long position in Kenya, so we're really pretty flexible about where we live. I can find work pretty much anywhere, and my partner can telecommute, so we'll see where we wind up.

I think most places in CT are even more commutable than LI and cheaper. You should look into it :-)

I an very MEH about CT. I would move to Hawaii. Perfect weather year round.

  • I'm in Denver, but I really, really want to live in Chicago. I used to blame it on Ferris Bueller, but seriously I just think it's a very cool city. I love Denver though, and will probably be here for awhile, which is just fine with me :)
  • It would be fun to be closer to family/Chicagoland area...even somewhere like Madison, WI because it's a fun little city. However, I'd also love to live back in California, but in San Francisco this time (not Fresno) OR Germany. I just love it there! And if money were no object I might as well throw in the fact that I'd love a cob house, farm, etc totally sustained from the land in like Montana on a tiny lake :)

Tho i've never been, Montana sounds like the place for me. On a ranch with wide open spaces.

  • I would love to live in Walnut Creek, CA the suburbs of San Francisco! Close enough to the city but still not right in the middle of it :)
  • Portland or Seattle (it may become a reality one day). I have also wanted to live in Chicago or Boston. I love cities with strong identities.

  • I don't know if i'd want to live somewhere else. I've visted a ton of places I really loved, but i've always been happy to come back to the Boston area. it just feels like home to me.

i'd like to live a little further south of the city and have a bit more yard than we do though. but we currently live right near the water and i can see the city skyline from the end of our little street.

i have friends who live in the wine country in CA and they have a really cool lifestyle, but i'm not sure i could live it. same for my friend who moved down to Cocoa Beach in florida. Amazing lifestyle, but it's not for me. i love the four seasons because the changes make me appreciate each one.

i grew up in CT and part of me misses my home town, but i know that would wear off quickly if i ever moved back. Boston has a hold on me.

  • I live just outside London, UK, but i'd love to live in Seattle or San Francisco. I got married in SFO and have vacayed there numerous time since i was a nipper. I love it there. However, I fell in love with Seattle when I spent a few days there. Everyone was just so darn friendly and it wasn't too busy like so many other cities. I like the alternative community that has grown there too. I'm also a bit of a grunge fanatic, so if I could live closer to Stone Gossard I totally would.

  • We've lived in WV, NC, NH, NY and now TX. We'd like to be near the east coast to be closer to family but I think I would love to live in Colorado. It's beautiful there and I love the outdoors. Can't really spend a lot of time outside in Houston without getting carried away by giant skeeters!

Yes to Edinburgh. We visited there this summer and it's an amazing city. The people are fantastic, the food is too good, and it's beautiful. When I'm having bad days at work I look at flats there :)

If I could go anywhere though it would be a villa in Tuscany. Go big or go home right?

  • Somewhere with seasons. I've been in FL my whole life and Im over it.

    NC maybe?

  • I'm in Austin and I love our city, but it seems like the summers are getting harder and harder to take.   If money was not an issue, I'd love the mildness of San Diego.  I also daydream of running away to Vermont, but who am I kidding... I've never even shoveled snow.   :)

  • DH wants to move to San Antonio. Hell no. No. Can't stand that state but for reasons not normally an issue.

I think I'd just be a snowbird. I love Phoenix but I miss the green grassy summers of my childhood spent in Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and parts of eastern Canada.  I just don't want snow. I hate snow and the cold.

  • We live in Manhattan, but I would choose to move back home to Chicago to be with my family in a heartbeat if we could transfer our job and friends from here. Living in the city is great, but a 2 bedroom apartment here could afford a mansion in the north shore.

If money wasn't an object though, I'd choose Hawaii!! It is so beautiful there all year round.
