Fell in the ice...

I just slipped and fell pretty hard outside. I have a call into the doc, but am kind of freaked. Has anyone else fallen? Did your doc make you go to the hospital?

Re: Fell in the ice...

  • I fell with my first, I can't remember how. My doc told me that it's pretty hard to hurt the baby in its protective bubble. Try not to worry!

  • Oh, no! How are you feeling? Did you hit your belly? My sister slid down a couple of stairs during her pregnancy last winter and her doctor just told her to watch for cramping/bleeding. All was absolutely fine, as I'm sure it will be with you. Take it easy!

  • I hope you are ok and not hurting too bad. I agree with curley but if you are cramping or bleeding I would def. go to the ER. See what your doc suggests. Good luck and keep us posted!

  • I fell on the driveway this morning, I already had an OB appointment, he wasn't worried at all. Said baby is well cushioned and I will probably be sore tomorrow. If i have any cramping, bleeding, contractions to call him.

  • I fell at work a few weeks ago. My MW was upset that I wasn't seen. I monitored her movement, wasn't crampy, or bleeding. This happened before I was aware of my anterior placenta. If I was to fall again she would want me seen, and I agree with that.
  • Thanks guys. Still waiting for call back from doc, but this is making me feel better. I landed on my butt and elbow. That seems to be the only pain. Still so scary;(
  • I feel a few weeks ago and then looked online and there are so many posts about women falling. I happened ot have a doc apointment the next day.

If you are really sore on  your tummy, feel less movement or bleeding then you will have to phone the doc. Any cramping too. Otherwise you're probably fine. Baby is really cushioned!!

Also, my nurse, when I told her said, "yeah you fall more when you're pregnant as you have no sense of balance".

  • I have not fallen but its one of my biggest fear especially since in MN its icy all winter!!! especially right now... I asked my Midwife what to do if i fall and she said that unless i fall really hard flat on my stomach not to worry too much. She said to just call and let them know and to watch for cramping/bleeding and to take it easy and ice for a couple days. I am sorry that happened to you! i hope your feeling ok!

Ive never fallen, but I did have a resident fall on my stomach with my first. I tend to not be big on going to the dr anyway so I didn't think twice about continuing to work. DS was still moving like crazy and I knew he was fine. SO went the my next appt with me and told the dr about it (he was concerned) the dr freaked and made me take a stress test.

Baby was perfectly fine. I say just relax chances are things are fine! I would just see what the dr says when he calls back!
  • Omg, I was so scared that you fell through the ice and into a lake from your title!  Phew...

I agree with PP, call your doc to let them know and look for bleeding, cramping, sensitivity.  I am so sorry!  That is no fun at all, and quite scary.

I just fell hard last week. I called the doc and they just said to take it easy the rest of the day and make sure the movement is similar to what is normal for me. If I had any cramping or pain to call back. They also offered me to come in the next day to have a listen to the baby. I relaxed and felt baby moving later that night, so I didn't worry about it.

If my doctor isn't concerned I'm trying to not be. I still have bruises on my knees from a fall over a week ago.

**I hope you're okay and that you recover from the fall too!!**

  • All good tips. My doc never called back if you can believe that! Kind of disappointed in them for that. I can feel baby move, but now I am worried I broke my elbow! I can open my arm, but it hurts pretty bad. Ugh!!!
  • I fell on my stomach at 18 weeks. Doc said it was totally fine! (Actually her words were "why are you even here?") Take it easy, drink lots of water and check for baby's kicks if you are at that stage. The worst of it was a high ankle sprain that will heal by April! I'd get your elbow checked out. I just went to an urgent care -much more convenient.
  • No experience with falls- just wanted to say that I hope everything is ok and that your elbow feels better!!!
