Pet Peeve

Lately when someone asks me how i'm feeling i've been saying that i'm tired mostly because I can't get comfortable at night sleeping. When I say that I always get the, "Oh you just wait until that baby is here! You won't sleep for awhile!" Oh really? I thought it was just going to pop out and sleep through the night for the next few years. Come ON, i'm allowed to be tired. It especially bugs me because when my MIL asks me that same question and I give her the same reply she rolls her eyes and says, "What do you have to be tired about?" I'm this close to round house kicking her. Although I doubt I could get my leg up that high because of my baby belly. But i'd damn sure try!

This kind of turned into a rant.

  • @Mamamonzo Everything you said I was just sitting here nodding my head like, "I'm not the only one!" I feel like people think i'm stupid or think i'm not allowed to be tired or feel sick! In the first trimester when my husband would tell my MIL I was sick she would be like, "Oh it has to be something else, she shouldn't be sick this long, maybe a stomach bug?" Yeah a stomach bug called a damn FETUS. But whatever she knows more apparently.

AS a STM I can tell you from my experience that People are wrong! I was so tired last time from not being able to get comfortable to sleep while pregnant and back/hip pain and it was such a relief once I had my baby! Yes at first you will only be able to sleep a few hours at a time as baby will be waking you to eat etc. but those few hours at a time will be heaven! You will actually be able to get comfortable and really sleep...that was my experience anyway!

    Yes This! My experience too.

My husband always makes the same kind of responses. Not so much the "you just wait.." but the "what do you have to be tired for?" He thinks that just because he wakes up at 5am that he's the only person aloud to be tired.  8-|
You tell him there are pregnant ladies who can't get comfy and sleep...  AND have to wake up at 5am every day, lol. ;)

Yeah! And I have to get up at 3am every morning. And I toss and turn all night! I'm exhausted all day...

Ummm, can we talk about that cake in your post instead, @sloger?

  • My MIL bought a cake that looked just like that from somewhere and we had it on Thanksgiving and it was delicious! But I have no clue where she got it! I need to ask her.

I was all UP in that cake's business.

  • Yea, people are wrong and I tell them that all the time.  I was so uncomfortable and miserable my last month of pregnancy and once I had DS, yea, I was tired, but so much better able to cope with being tired than when I was pregnant!

  • I finally slept most of the night (11pm-6am) and DH thinks my back pain has now magically disappeared. Ummm no. My metabolism is in overdrive right now and must be exhausting me into sleep.
  • Ugh I hate when I get the "just wait.." comment when I tell people that I'm exhausted and having trouble sleeping. My SIL loves to make annoying comments like this and it's getting harder to just smile and not punch her in the face. Yes, I am a FTM but I'm not a complete idiot. And don't bother asking me how I feel if you're going to make annoying or rude comments regarding my answer. Drives me nuts!!!

  • lol! This speaks to me so much. I default to this face when people say the "just you wait" phrases:
    Steve-carell-stare
And yeah, I have this gif on backup because I use it a LOT. I have resting bitch face.
Oh my God I Jim Face to an imaginary camera sometimes behind peoples backs!

haha! I do this too! Sometimes my students (I teach 9th & 10th) will catch me and ask what the heck I'm doing.

Um, yeah sleep was definitely easier and better when I no longer shared my body with a 10.5 pound squirmy human. Also heartburn, nausea, joint pain, contractions etc are all shitty reasons you can't sleep while a sweet little baby wanting to nurse is a pretty nice reason to be awake at 2am. Also newborns nap a LOT.
I call those "just you wait" type of people stress puppies. Be gone stress puppies.
