High-Risk Pregnancy

Vertical Incision, Anyone?

I just recently found out that the last section I had was a vertical incision on the uterus.  Abdominal was horizontal.  Does anyone know the risks of a vertical vs horizontal incision?

Re: Vertical Incision, Anyone?

  • I believe there is a higher risk of a uterine rupture if you go into labor.

  • I had a vertical incision with a horizontal on the outside.  The biggest thing I've been told is just that a vbac is not possible, and I'll have to have a scheduled c-section with any future pregnancies.  From what I've read, you can't have a vbac because the scar is much weaker and can rupture.

  • Thank you both, much appreciated!
  • Hi ladies. No personal experience here but my SIL had two c-sections, one a vertical and the second a t incision. She just had a successful VBAC with her third baby. If it's something you're interested in, don't be afraid to research and get some support. Good luck!!!
