City Mini GT vs. Elite vs. B-Agile

The short question: Anyone have any experience with either the City Mini GT or Britax B-Agile, specifically with snowy or rougher terrain, that they can share?

The long story: I'm a FTM and have been going crazy doing research trying to find the perfect stroller for my lifestyle: Lots of walking in all weather (on sidewalks, but no jogging) and also lots of transport by car. I thought I had narrowed it down to either the City Mini GT or Britax B-Aglile. However when speaking with a BTDT friend of mine she was trying to convince me that I need the City Elite not the Mini GT. Her argument was that I will need to push the stroller through snowy sidewalks during the winter and the small wheels on the Mini GT wouldn't cut it.

I'm very torn because I really don't want the stroller to be bulky and heavy which is why I thought the GT was an excellent compromise. TIA.

Re: City Mini GT vs. Elite vs. B-Agile

  • I have a B-Agile. It's a fine, lightweight stroller but it does not have air tires and is a bit rough off the sidewalk, like say on gravel or dirt and grass. If the GT has bigger, air tires and you intend to do a lot of non-sidewalk walking then I would probably go that route.

  • I the mini single (regular, not gt) and the elite double. The elite is a much better stroller. IMO the GT is a cheap version of the elite that allowed them to jack up the price on the mini. The tires on the gt are barely bigger than on the mini, but the 12" on the elite are amazing. If you're going to walk a lot, I'd go elite.
  • No experience w either of those, but we live in New England and use our bumble ride indie everywhere. It's fine in the snow and we've taken it to the beach, the Audubon and just around at the park and the neighborhood. We haven't had any problems with it.
  • I have an Elite and it is excellent on rough terrain, and the wheels are great. It is a very smooth ride for my son during long walks. I have a large trunk(Honda Pilot) so it fits just fine, but I'm not sure how it would do in a small trunk. They may let you test it in your trunk if you went to a store. Also, it is a PITA to go into stores with so I ended up getting a 2nd stroller just for shopping trips.

I chose the Elite because 1. I'm not a jogger so didn't need a jogging stroller 2. I go on a lot of walks, occasionally on rough terrain.  It can be hard to find the stroller that fits your lifestyle best, but HTH!

  • I have the GT. We have pushed it over snow many times. It isn't the easiest thing, but I think works a lot better than the B-Agile (and a lot of other strollers) would because of the tires. I don't know in comparison to the Elite though.

  • We chose the Gt, I really wanted better tires than the agile or city mini but still easy lite weight fold. The elite was too big for my everyday lifestyle, getting in our of car ect. I do not think there is a perfect stroller, but the GT came closest to what I wanted. If we find we need a true all terrain stroller down the OAS, then well get one. But for now I like th GT

All of this. I bought a City Micro for trips to the mall and places where tighter maneuvering is an issue but I use my Elite for everything else. I don't find the footprint when folded to be all that much larger than the Micro but I guess the wheels might be an issue in a small trunk. However, they easily pop on and off so you'd still have no issue getting it flat, you'd just have to do a little quick assembly. It's a great stroller but the size keeps it from being my only stroller.

  • Just how much snow are you talking about?

We have the GT and we got a couple of inches of snow here over the holidays. Since it's not really a winter climate, people are lousy about clearing their sidewalks, so it was messy around here for a week or so until things melted again.

The GT wheels did just fine in those messy snowy, then slushy and icy conditions. BJ calls them "forever air," and they are a different type of wheel than what's on the regular City Mini. They roll really well on soft, uneven terrain. We also take it on all types of terrain -- gravel, lawns, hard-packed sand on beach ... it does just fine. To be sure, I wouldn't push the stroller into a saturated muddy mess, but I probably wouldn't want to take the Elite into those conditions either.

We have a dog that needs his daily walks, so there was no opting out of taking the stroller out in those conditions.

I also considered the Elite but a) couldn't find one in a local showroom and didn't want to buy something I couldn't look at in person, and b) I thought the 12" wheels would be a bit too much for in and out of the car as well as in and out of the house. We've got 5 tall, uneven steps up to our front door and not much storage space. Plus, we don't down a car, and when we do Zipcar we tend to get a small hatchback, so I figured the 8" wheels would be much more manageable for us.
