I ate a turkey hoagie

Hi ladies. I'm 6 weeks and 3 days along, and I think I just messed up. I just had a Capriotti's Bobbie sandwich for dinner. It's a turkey sandwich, but it's made with roasted turkey that they make fresh everyday, rather than lunch meat. I thought that was fine, but now I'm reading mixed things online. Should I be worried?

Just in case you're not being sarcastic, which I certainly hope you are, don't you think your Dr or SOMEBODY might mention that something as common as turkey is dangerous?

My concern came from the fact that eating turkey lunch meat isn't recommended during pregnancy. And then I read online that even roast turkey or chicken that is allowed to get cold again in the refrigerator (and is not reheated afterwards) can carry a listeria risk. There's obviously a ton of incorrect info on the interwebs, and I just wanted some reassurance. Sorry if it came off as a stupid question.
  • It's ok and normal to be concerned. Of course you don't want to do anything, on purpose or by accident that could hurt you or junior. That being said, your turkey sandwich sounds delicious. Have another; you're fine.
  • Yeah, I'm sure none of you ever worried about anything that might be silly during your first pregnancy, before you saw the doctor to talk about what is/isn't okay.

    My bad.
This isn't silly. It's dumb. You seriously don't know the difference between processed deli meat and meat sliced off a roasted turkey?

    Oy.

Oh come the fuck on. I obviously didn't say I didn't know the difference, hence why I said it wasn't lunch meat. I said that I read that the roasted turkey can still carry the risk if it's refrigerated and not reheated. Wanted to know whether or not that was true.

Glad to hear that it isn't.
  • Now I want some cajun turkey from the deli.

    It's a BOY

  • I ate a turkey sandwich at work the other day because I forgot to bring my lunch.  It was delicious and I didn't sweat it because it was food.  deli meat = better than no food at all.  and I ate sushi today (granted it was deep fried, lmao)

  • People really are this fucking dumb, aren't they?

    Good God.

I snorted my tea reading your comment. Didn't I just ask you this same question about another stupid person?
    ;)
  • My doctor told me everything in moderation... heck I on occasion ate sushi when I craved it. Freaking out about everything is more harmful than the actual food.

  • Boy I can't wait to rejoin the tri boards. I really can't fucking wait to rub my pregnant sushi, feta cheese, deli meat loving belly all up in this bitch.
It almost makes me want to get pregnant again so I can post a 3rd tri pic where I am eating sushi, drinking a glass of wine and flipping off the camera.

    Almost.

I actually had a glass of wine on Thanksgiving- No shame either

I think it's ok to be nervous about things you're eating, just try not to beat yourself up. I don't think it was a dumb question, especially from a first timer. There are so many things I'd rather be cautious about than sorry later. Good luck to you!

  • I eat Jimmy Johns (think Subway... but BETTER), at least twice a week. I have for 19 weeks.

An no, I do not heat my sandwich up. Hot meat is yucky. And they deliver it right to my department. @ the hospital. Actually last week an Ob and I enjoy it together.
I've been craving Jimmy Johns the last couple weeks. I'm not worried about eating it, we moved three blocks from our old place and it's out of their deliver zone. I'm too lazy to go out in the snow and drive to them to get it....So yummy though. They don't put bean sprouts on them anymore here which makes me sad.

  • I think a lot of these comments are really rude. People come here for advice not to be put down and made fun of. For a first time mom pregnancy is often times really scary for some people and I think we could help calm her fears not make her scared of posting again.

    Oh?

I agree. And you know what? If were all throwing in our 2 cents, I find people who drink when they're pregnant white trash. Flame away

Oh so having a glass of wine on occasion is your equivalent of downing a 6-pack of PBR?

    Don't go to Europe.

This. My Italian grandmother swears a glass of wine is not only OK but good for the baby. In her words (loosely translated because my Italian is not great and she speaks very broken english) "a few glasses of wine a week won't kill the baby, it relaxes you it relaxes the baby". I wouldn't nessasarly drink a few a week but on an occasion, like a holiday or family get together you bet your sweet ass I'm gonna have me some moscato

If you're afraid (or scared or concerned, take your pick) to eat turkey or lift a 20 pound shopping bag while pregnant, how the fuck are you going to care for an actual real-life infant that has actual, real-life concerns associated with it?!

  • My OB/GYN is very liberal and basically told me to use common sense but that if I was paranoid about everything I would never eat anything. She said that anyone can get listeria even if you're not pregnant so it's not like there's a higher risk you just have to get it from a good place if you're going to eat it and eat in moderation. Also if it is heated up then it should be fine.

Why are you women so rude...have you actually ever lost a child and if so why do you have no compassion?? She is concerned and asking for a little advice and some of you decide that it is easier to be mean, than to offer a kind word. I personally have been pregnant 4 times...I have a 2 year old but most recently lost my little boy last July at 6 months gestation. I am currently pregnant again and have been told this time around to avoid many things that I wasn't told about with my first, second or third one being to avoid picking anything up over 25 lbs and I have been more caustious of what I eat, cause why the hell not be more safe than sorry. You don't know fear in pregnancy until you have lost a child and with all the being said I am still able to very a good mother to my daughter. If you want to drink then drink, if you want to eat sushi then go for it...but why be so judgemental and rude to a first time mama just looking for some advice. @angelstar975 good luck with your pregnancy and definitely don't take the opinion of strangers to heart, you never know their life circumstances and everyone is a badass over the internet.
If someone, such as yourself, was given specific restrictions for their pregnancy, why the fuck would they come on and ask internet strangers for advice? Otherwise, the overreaction to things like lunch meat is stupid. No one is making you stay.

  • OP no one thought you were stupid for your question. We actually think the rule is just really stupid. I personally think meat is ok during pregnancy. I had a bucket load of shell fish in the beginning of my pregnancy and felt super guilty. But I turned out to be just fine. It is just a really obnoxious rule. And you had ONE hoagie...
