Do you give flu shot?

I know some of you give delayed vaccinations, butI was wondering if you give the flu shot to your child who is of preschool age? I thank you for your reply.

Re: Do you give flu shot?

  • We usually always do. We didn't (yet) this year, because we were planning to go over the thanksgiving break. Unfortunately it started going around school before then and he came home with fever the thursday before the break started. It was miserable. :-(

  • Yes.  DS1 (3.5) hasn't had his yet because every time we get enough of a break he seems to come down with another virus.  Ugh.  We only slightly delay vaccinations.  If he's getting more than 2 or 3, we'll get half of them and then come back 2 weeks later for the next 2.  He seems to have a pretty sensitive immune system and I'm too scared of overloading it and having the vaccination not work.  His pneomoccal titers were alreayd low and he needed to have the pneumovax to boost it so this is a founded concern for us.

  • DS has gotten it every year (so have DH and I). I've had a confirmed case exactly once and it's the sickest I've ever been, no thank you.

  • Yes. My kiddo has an autoimmune disease and epilepsy so the flu would be devastating to her.

  • Yes.  Both of my girls are in school, and I'm pregnant.
  • Yes. I have an autoimmune disease, DH was diagnosed this summer with heart disease, and my NT child has asthma, so all 4 of us get them. Even if we were healthy, I'd try to get them to help protect more fragile people we're around and help prevent the spread of it through the community. I still feel guilt from the time my NT twin ended up hospitalized with pneumonia that may have been prevented if we'd gotten the flu shots early enough in the season.

Also, DH was in the pharmaceutical industry for 12 years and very involved in making the flu vaccine. With his level of knowledge about it, how it is developed and made, etc., we are very comfortable with getting it for us and our kids.

  • It completely depends on my mood.  I have in the past but not this year or last year.  The only person in my family who has gotten a flu shot so far this year is DH but that is because he is required.  He would prefer not too though.
  • We vaccinate.
  • Nope. He has all the required vaccinations for school.

  • Chris' genetic condition is associated with immune issues.  We make sure he and his brothers get it.
  • Nope, absolutely not!

  • So we did not want to. The school nurse is saying he needs one by January 2. How do I get around this?
