I'm assuming she means she plans to pump bottles for when she's out of the house.

I'm pretty modest, but I never batted an eye at bf.

This. BFing and modesty had nothing to do w/ each other for me.

As long as we are saying things like, "whip it out," and "got an eyeful," etc. we aren't going to make much progress.
What's wrong with saying "whip it out?" I don't think being prudish about it will solve anything easier.
    Edit additional.

This, and the fact that how people refer to BFing on an internet forum is pretty irrelevant. I highly doubt any of us are going to sit down in a restaurant and say "hold up a second, I gotta whip out a titty here."

Or maybe I will. Maybe I'll whip both out, but the unused one will have a tassel on it.
I'm not very eloquent so I always say "I'm gonna whip out my titty" I am a pretty blunt person, I use phrases like "whip it out" and curse a bit.

But hey they do say that people who swear are generally more honest ;).

Nipple is a swear word, right?
It must be, DH giggles everytime I say it ;).

  • I've totally done that before. Also while holding him in my arms and walking around the grocery store pushing the cart with my elbows- now that one was a bit tricky!
    That's impressive!

  • Fitting rooms aren't that far away?
  • I agree that BFing in public, even uncovered, does not automatically make you immodest, which I think was at least part of the point Lala was trying to make.

  • That's pretty much what I do, too. I live those microrib tanks from target. The necks are nice and stretchy.

  • i nursed in target once, but i went to the dressing room... not because i was ashamed but it was the best place to sit down and relax and also because my baby was a little older and hard to carry. we had some issues so for the first month or two i had to practically be topless to get it going :) this time around i plan on bringing my moby wrap and attempting to nurse while wearing (you can cover them so its totally discrete, no one will know! :) also i can keep shopping :) lol my sis did that and no one noticed! :)

  • Ohhhh, you are all going to hell with your foul titty language and dancing Jesus....

I applaud all of you moms able to BF in public while multitasking.  I can't walk and chew gum at the same time.  I'll have to practice!! I'm a wreck about BFing because I want it to work out so badly.

In OT, a woman I work with said to me today very disapprovingly, "I hope you aren't going to BF".  And I was so shocked by it!  She says, "then you can never be anywhere without the baby, you will always be feeding the baby, no one else will be able to" and I felt like saying, "where the hell am I going to go in the first few months of my child's life without him/her anyway??"  I just found it to be an interesting take on it...

Eating lunch in the fitting room will just allow me to relive my highschool days when I had to eat lunch in the bathroom stall!

ETA I realize I won't be the one eating lunch...but i'll be preparing my child for the future!

That bitch needs a boob slap. I hate the argument that no one else gets to feed the baby. Because that's the ONLY thing to do with a baby. Idiots.
Whip out that tit and smack a bitch!
  • I've been there and done that. I have nursed all 6 kids and has BF in public literally everywhere lol no chair?! Floor it is!!!
  • I actually liked nursing in fitting rooms because I could take all of my shit in there and spread out and DH could come in too and not just be standing around waiting for us, and it was quiet with no distractions. Though I never did it when it was busy and people were waiting for a room, which would be a little rude.

I would slap anyone who suggested I nurse or pump in a bathroom. That's just nasty.

  • @Serenia - yeah, places like Target, Kohl's (I guess in different dept's but usually empty and not specifically marked as womens or mens), American Eagle, Tommy Hilfiger, Express, Old Navy... all unisex dressing rooms. I actually can't think of any place where they are monitoring and would have a problem.

  • I'm all about breast feeding and while I don't think everyone needs to use a cover I still think there is a thing called modesty and just because you have a baby doesn't call to completely expose yourself in public. I have literally seen women walking through my workplace with half their shirt up over their shoulder and their boob hanging out. I'm sorry I just don't think that is ever necessary. I do plan on breast feeding and if I can't use a cover and don't have a shirt that works I will go and sit in my car or the restroom.
  • I agree that women should have the right to breastfeed anywhere they need to.

But don't give women a hard time for preferring to cover themselves or nurse in a changing room if they are more comfortable doing so. We are not telling YOU to do it, thats just our personal feelings for ourself.

I think the bottom line comes down to having the right to choose and having the right to nurse harassment free!

the same could be said about giving a bottle harassment free! being a first time mom can feel like a loose/loose situation sometimes.... you give a bottle and its "gasp, your not breastfeeding" or your nurse and its "your baby will be too attached" (which is super dumb, but I've heard it) or "nurse, just don't go out in public" (which is not realistic)
One thing I love about expecting my second is that I'm much more relaxed this time around! you gotta do what you gotta do! make the decision that works best for you and your baby and don't give others a hard time for doing the same if its different from what works for you!

perhaps you need to reread what i said. I never once say the word modesty in the two posts I've made on this subject.

You are getting onto to me by quoting someone else. I believe this is the comment you are thinking of:

didn't actually make this comment. I simply said "I agree that women should have the right to breastfeed anywhere they need to. But don't give women a hard time for preferring to cover themselves or nurse in a changing room if they are more comfortable doing so. I stand by my comment. Im in no way making a judgement or asking you to do the same... I have no problems with women nursing whenever they need to, My point was to stop giving those a hard time if they are more comfortable with a cover. I wasn't directing anything to you personally, just to anyone in general who makes sarcastic remarks about not liking to eat in a changing room.

the next time you have something to say, make sure you are quoting the right person.

  • Love that "titty" has made it into this thread, like, 50 times. We should do shots.

I will be BF-ing with a tent-like cover. Not because I'm modest (even though I kind of am) but because, once fully engorged with milk, I'm pretty sure my pre-pregnancy 38G's would terrify small children if out in the open. Plus, I don't want strangers to think my boobs are trying to eat my baby. The mental picture of how the heck I'm gonna breast feed already has me flummoxed.

@biggerinreallife now we know where you got your screen name from! DAMN GIRL you got some biggums!

Oooooooookay, I stand corrected on my ability to quote.

But who was giving anyone a hard time about using a cover?

A few people have made comments about nursing in the changing room.

That's what I was referring to... And also, this topic has come up before and people have made comments.
