I think any American who is willing and able to work should be able to earn a living wage, regardless of education.
I feel like the argument is backwards so often. Instead of saying, "They don't deserve to earn X amount for that job because...," I wish we argued that EVERYONE should be paid fairly and given good benefits and even be entitled to a pension/decent retirement. It's an utter shame that so many people and families struggle to make ends meet. Even middle class families find it tough these days.
I strongly dislike icicle lights. They look cheap and nothing like icicles. We just do a simple set of blue lights. (although this year we didn't get them up in time. sad)
In time for what??
There is a deadline to put up Christmas lights?!?! Dammit!! I missed that memo.
You GUISE!!! You didn't know? Lights are totes supposed to go up before thanksgiving!!
I want to be able to say "Merry Christmas" and have someone respond with the appropriate sentiment for what they believe. Is that so hard? Why should I have to pretend to be something because you might believe differently? In general, the varying different winter celebrations do not war with or offend each other. So why must I pretend I don't celebrate Christmas just because someone else might not? Have confidence in your holiday! So when I say Merry Christmas, give me a Happy Hanukkah if that's your persuasion!

Get them up in time? Theres still 20 days until christmas yo.
I live in MN. We got 4" of snow yesterday and it's currently 10 degrees out. It's only going to get colder and snowier.
@BubblyDevil OOhhhh I cannot STAND blue Christmas lights. Not sure why, I just don't like the way they look in the dark, and blue isn't a Christmas color! Ha!

Umm, my CHRISTMAS trees are decorated in blue, silver, and purple with little NY Yankee and Philadelphia Eagle ornaments all over. Screw green and red. Boring.

Its 70 here today...
I guess I forget that winter actually means cold for some people.
I am so about to get flame for this one, however, I do not think folks working at Burger King should be making $15 or $16 an hour.
Maybe $10, but come on now with a college degree right out of college I made $9.50, I had to work my a$$ off to make what I make now.
An education =/= higher pay. Most academics make crap. Sorry you aren't happy with the path you chose, but don't take it out on others. You just sound like a jealous hater.

All totally true. Putting up lights and whatnot may constitute a poor life choice with this weather. I'm hoping my husband will do it this weekend while I'm at work anyway. My dad made a bunch of wood figures he put out in the yard every year, and I'd hate to not put them out for our first Christmas without him. I get why other people wouldn't decorate after this much snow, though.

This. I feel that in addition to an increase in wage companies like burger king and similar companies should be required to have a certian percentage of full time workers. These places avoid offering full time positions like the plague in order to avoid giving anyone benefits. Someone can work two or 3 of these jobs part time but they are still recieving 0 benefits.
Someone shouldn't have to work 60 hours of physically strenuous labour a week in 3 different jobs to barely scrape together their rent and feed their family. Especially when execs are raking in disgustingly exorbitant sums of money and can more than afford to provide their employees with a living wage and benefits.

Truth! I know people who are making way more with better benefits and no secondary education than DH or I will ever see with Masters degrees.
I think only giving someone a picture of your LO for Xmas is a shitty gift. I mean, I know all the grandparents adore pics of my children, and I give them pics often (not as a main gift). I also love making little gifts on shutterfly with their professional pics and snapshots, but they usually go in a stocking or a little side thing.
Meh..we are buying a house for Christmas (hopefully) so all we can afford this year are pictures of LO that we had done in the hospital. I hardly think our families will think it's a shitty present.
My UO... I hope the elf fad is over by the time my LO is old enough for it. Seems like a lot to remember each night to make the thing do something different. I'd be tempted to place him next to a bottle of wine each night. I'll do other fun "Christmasy" things with my children that involve their participation as well...make cookies, crafts, decorate, shop and wrap, sing and dance. LOL
I don't think it's that crazy for fast food workers to make $15 an hour. There was a line of 20 cars in the fast food lane today. Id rather see the workers make a living wage than a few CEOs make bazillions and zillions selling cheap food.
People get riled up about too many people receiving government benefits, but if a hardworking individual works full time for minimum wage...they are no better off, and maybe worse off, than if they are using the government help.
Just seems like if you are in that position there's no real motivation. Sad situation though , to want to work and still be in poverty.
I'm not sure what the answer is, but something's got to change.

Apartment living yo. Although my short ass doesnt want to put up my tree and decorate it... i am kinda hoping i can get bf to do it this weekend cause im lazy.
I dislike the mob mentality around this BMB and other boards. It makes me uncomfortable and I feel bad for those subjected (a lot of the time, not all the time). Aside from child abuse, I don't see why anyone would get riled up over someone else's parenting decisions.
Is there something/someone specific you're talking about?
There would be too many to list! I'm not talking individual people, rather topics.
I hate Pampers! We tried them in NB and he peed all over himself and are giving them a try again now and theres no grip at the back so he's always winding up with poop explosions. Back to Huggies we go...
@Zever000 I got you beat today! It's -42 with the windchill and there is a severe frostbite warning issued for today and tomorrow. Days like today are when I want to move south!

Where the hell do you all live? Antartica?
Haha close enough. I live in Alberta. There is literally snow up to my eyeballs outside, not even exaggerating.
Eta: wow, totally didn't read your quote right. Holy balls, @KatieS7 that's bad for this time of year. We usually done get to -40 until January-February.

Jealous! It's -22F here today (-30C), so I'm not leaving the house.
I don't think I can even imagine what that feels like. It was 13 when I visited Chicago and I thought I was going to die.

Wow! It's like 20 degrees here, and I think I'm going to freeze to death. Your heating bills must be outrageous.

Now I understand why the Canadians I met on my cruise like to drink while they ski It's apparently the only way you'll survive outdoors!
