Just wanted to say thanks-update on my mom

I posted a thread a couple weeks ago, my mom had a mammogram that "saw something". She had the biopsy...unfortunately it's not the news we'd hoped for. She was diagnosed with breast cancer the day before thanksgiving :( Thankfully, it's 2013 and it is treatable. She'll be having a mastectomy sometime before Christmas and hopefully be able to jump this hurdle like the strong bad bitch I know she is! I'm having a hard time with the fact that she'll have to have chemo but I want them to be sure it's gone.

I just wanted to say thanks to all the ladies that responded to my initial post, it really made me feel better and not so alone :) I'm the oldest of 4 so I'm the strong one keeping things together and it's tough especially during the holidays and with all these damn emotions! It really makes me realize that I have so much to be thankful for.

Ok I swear I'm normally not a touchy feely let's talk about our feeeeeeeeelings girl, but sincerely thank you!

Well your mom is definitely in my thoughts and prayers, but I am confident she will be just fine. Breast cancer treatments tend to be very successful :). I myself have to get a mammogram once a year and have already had two biopsies on my left breast because I have "concerning lumpy breast" and brown sticky discharge which can mean bad news. So I have done lots of research to know what my options could be and I have become so comfortable with the idea because, like you said, it's 2013 and we kick breast cancer in the ass!

    It's a BOY

  • Sending T&Ps. Chemo is rough but having a good prognosis is awesome. My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer right when I found out I was pregnant with DD. They caught it early an after treatment, he has been cancer-free for almost 2 years. I hope your mom will be a success story very soon as well.

  • I just wanted to say, that if you ever need someone to listen, my pm box is open. My grandfather is currently undergoing treatment for lung cancer that was diagnosed recently. He's doing well so far, and I hope that your mom's treatment goes well.

  • I'm sorry for the diagnosis, but it sounds like your mom is a fighter and she will no doubt kick cancer's ass. I know it sucks to have to always be the strong one...be sure that you take care of yourself through this and don't keep your own feelings and concerns bottled up. Will be thinking about your mom and you as you all enter this fight together.
  • My mom just went through the exact same thing, and after her double mastectomy, she got reconstructive surgery with implants (I guess her insurance is great!) and that really lifted her spirits. Thinking good thoughts for your mom. It's hard to not be able to do anything except be supportive. Hugs.
  • Best wishes for a smooth recovery & treatment plan for her.

  • I just wanted to wish your mom good luck with her treatments! One of my friends is pregnant with her third child and found out while she was still nursing her second child that she has breast cancer. Imagine having chemo treatments, pregnant, mastectomy, c-section, more chemo, kid in the nicu... she is so strong and such a great woman to look up to!
I know your mom can beat it too! You're such a great daughter for holding it together for her and the family. I'm sure she appreciates it more than you'll ever know!
    Keep us updated! :)
  • So sorry that you guys had to get that news but I'm glad you got a good prognosis. I'm thankful that I haven't been through this personally but imagine how hard it must be for you to hold everything together. Just remember to take care of yourself in the process. Hugs and thoughts and prayers with you and your mom to get through this and put it all behind you. I have lots of faith that she will get through it.

  • You're right! It's 2013 and this is treatable!

To help ease your fears, my mom has had breast cancer 4 times. The first time, I was 6 years old and she had the worst possible strain of it! Over the years, she's had a mastectomy, chemo, lumpectomies, radiation and last year, she had a final mastectomy on the remaining side.

    I'm sending T&P for a speedy recovery!!
  • so sorry you didn't get good news! you are right though, it's 2013 and it sounds like they caught it early!

i'm sure her being a strong bad bitch is going to help a whole lot too :)

    keep us updated!!

  • Thanks everyone! It's reassuring, saddening, (and so effing scary!!!!) to hear of everyone that has been in my shoes and have seen the winning side of the situation :)

Thank you for all the encouraging words to stay strong! She really is a bad bitch and I got to learn from the best, my sisters are 13 and 14 so I want to continue the example and especially stay strong for them!

Yep, I just have to keep an eye on it. Go one a year. I have markers in where they too biopsies so they don't biopsy the same things. It leaves scars! But regardless your mom has a lot going in her favor. I am very confident she will pull through. It might be tough but what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger and I truly believe that!

  • Praying all goes well with your mother's surgery and treatment. I'm sure you'll be a strong woman for your family. Your mom will kick cancer's ass!

Yeah my mom told me about the biopsy and she got a couple markers too, I think to track spreading....that shit is serious! And poor babe has a hard time with numbing stuff (dentist can never get her all the way numb, and numbing didn't work for her biopsy) so the whole thing was a hard way to start things off. She had a meeting with her "team" of doctors today and is feeling so much better and positive and ready to kick it. Thanks so much for your input and positivity!
