I am trying to keep our expenses down to a minimum and just realized that at my 12 week appointment tomorrow (first appointment) they will likely be ordering blood work, a pap smear and urinalysis. Just from my past pregnancies I remember this being about $500 total worth of labs and I hate to use that right now considering our deductible will start over January first. I haven't used any of my deductible at all for 2013 so we will be responsible for the full amount which means we would be paying an extra $500 for the pregnancy altogether. I'm considering just asking my midwives to hold off on all the lab stuff until my next appointment (likely around 18 weeks) but I feel kind of bad postponing those things until 18 weeks. I'm not so worried about the pap smear because I am still within the recommended 3 years for that and I know they also do a syphilis screen but I am also not worried about that. They will check my iron levels in office so that isn't something that will have to be sent off. Anyone else considering postponing extra testing until after the new year?
