New SIDS Research Article

Thought I would share. Hopefully, they will be able to identify preventative interventions for those babies at risk.

Re: New SIDS Research Article

  • I read another article recently that blamed dopamine and serotonin levels in babies brain as a theory. Even if there is a medical predisposition, I think it will be a long time before babies are actually tested foe these abnormalities. It's usually not until after a baby dies that they can develop theories about why it happened.

I'll try to find the article I read. It also stated that babies are more likley to succumb to SIDS at daycare, on the first day, rather than at home.

  • It'd be great if they could develop a simple blood test to determine if your baby is at risk.
    Thanks for sharing.

  • I vaguely remembered reading about this theory somewhere else. I was trying to explain it to a friend yesterday, but couldn't remember all the details. Thanks for sharing!

  • Very interesting, thanks for sharing!
  • So does this mean that if you BF and are on anxiety/ depression meds which alter serotonin can put your baby at higher risk even though barely detectable levels transfer? Or are they talking more if an abnormality that occurs only in the infants stem?
  • I'd assume @citrusswallowtail that it's the latter

  • thanks for the share. Glad they are having advances in this area. It would be nice to know if your at risk and either not worry so much or be able to take extra precautions if needed.
