Milk out of fridge - confused

Pardon me for asking something that has probably been addressed, but I can't get clear on this point...

Let's say you have expressed milk, 24-48 hours old that has been stored in fridge.  If you are planning to bring it with you on an outing and are not expecting to use if for a couple of hours, would you warm it before you go, or just let it warm to room temp on it's own and hope your LO doesn't need it sooner than it warms up?

What is the limit on how long you can keep milk that has come out of the fridge and been warmed to at least room temp?

TIA!

  • I'd get LO used to taking not warm bottles, for one. And secondly I'd just let it warm up on it's own. Don't warm it beforehand.

Actually, I don't think he'll refuse it, but today for example, we were outside and the weather was cool.  I felt guilty giving him a cool (not cold) bottle and wondered if I should have heated it before we left.

  • If you know about when LO will need it and you're out and about, you can stick the bottle in your shirt to take the chill off a little.

  • I've just used my hands to hold the bottle for a few minutes, and it does take the chill out.
