Finding out the sex

If you are finding out the sex of the baby before birth do you know when your appointment will be that this might happen? Or a rough estimate? Just curious when we will start to have all the posts titled 'it's a...'. For me it should happen on January 30th and I will be 16w3d. If they can't figure it out at that appointment then I guess four weeks later at the end of February.

ETA: Do you know the date? Or approximately when, during what month, end, beginning etc..?

In BC they won't tell us until 21 weeks. They look for the sex at the A/S though around 18 weeks.

With my DD they told us at our A/S at 20w. I did not have an u/s between the NT scan and a/s and they would not venture a guess at 13w. I am guessing it will be the same this time around since I am going to the same practice.

I have heard of people finding out really early but I assume we won't know until my anatomy scan at 20 weeks!

I expect to find out around 12 weeks with the results of my Maternity21 bloodwork.

12wk bloodwork? How to get my doc to order that?

We will be finding out at our 20wk u/s and won't be paying any silly monies for an elective u/s

The anatomy scan is at 20 weeks which will be around the middle of February for me!

You could be an old broad like me, and then they will order it automatically, or just request it. It is a bloodwork screening for Downs and the trisonomies. And they can also tell the sex of the baby from the results.

Definitely by 20 wk scan, as in my last pregnancy, though like Huahine my ob has already discussed the Maternit21 test, because I am kinda old (38) and also will be out of the country at the time when you would normally do an NT scan, since the NT scan is so time-sensitive but the bloodwork is not.

I have heard of people finding out at 14 and 16 weeks- And if it's a boy and pretty much no chances of that changing. However they told my sister-in-law she was having a girl and she went back at 18 weeks and found out she was actually having a boy! They say 18 to 20 weeks is the best.

With an anatomy scan that can happen because usually they are looking for presence or absence of a penis. If you see one, you see one. If you don't but you got a bad angle or something, it might have just been hidden. If you are doing a blood test, well, it is a blood test so it should be completely accurate except for I guess contamination or something.

They are actually looking for the presence of a penis or a distinct picture of three lines, resembling a hamburger. If they said, "I don't see a penis, it's a girl" I wouldn't believe them. If they see the three lines, it is pretty positive that you are carrying a girl.

My doctor does an U/S at 18 weeks and that will be when we find out. I've had two friends, though, finding out when thy delivered that they had the opposite of what they were originally told. One ended up with a boy when they thought it was a girl, and one thought they were having a girl only to have a boy come out. Talk about a delivery surprise!

True. Still the point being a bad angle is a bad angle and can't be helped, but that is not an issue with a blood test. Obviously I am not an ultrasound tech.

Mine will probably be around 18 weeks since my appts seem to be falling 6-10-14-18 and so on for this pg.

With DD we found out at 17 weeks because I had to have an ultrasound due to severe abdominal cramping. It was at the hospital and the tech was like "oh, I can tell you what you're having!" We were shocked when she said girl! I was convinced we were having a boy, so I made her double check and then apparently (I don't remember this) asked who stole my baby's penis.

My doctor's office makes us wait until at least 20 weeks for the a/s, which is when we would find out (we're team green though). That would be on or after 2/21 for me - I'm due 7/11.

20 weeks or later. Doesn't matter when your monthly appointments are. I actually can't wait for all the reveals - it definitely helps me stay team green for some reason.
