The Name Bandwagon

So, the hubs and I have narrowed down our choices for a boy name and a girl name. We didn't really discuss, argue or anything. He said the boy name, I said the girls and it was settled. BUT we have decided that we aren't telling any family or friends until after the baby is born. I kind of want to see how other people react... would y'all let me know what you think?

Our Boy Name: Lincoln Robert

  • Thanks guys! I never even considered Beckett to be a boys name so I'm glad I asked on here!

  • I agree, Beckett generally makes me think "boy." However, I know lots of girls with boy names. In my class this year I have a Jordan, Nick, and a Tyler... All girls! I'm not trendy enough to use a boy name for a girl, but it's definitely being done. I think you should totally go with it if it's the name you love!

Do you know any girl Becketts IRL? I'm wondering how you thought it was a girl's name to begin with.
  • I'm actually just the opposite! I'm not a huge fan of Lincoln but I love Beckett and it was on our girl name list too but we got rid of it because like PP said, everyone told us it was a boys name. I don't know. I just kind of liked it. But it's your baby! Make it a girls name! There had to be a first person to name their little girl things like Riley or Tyler (I see as boy names). Do whatever makes you happy. :)

  • I know a little girl named Beckett, but it definitely sounds more like a boy name to me. I like Lincoln!

  • Before I read your post I thought you were asking between two boy names. Beckett is way too much of a boy name for me. Not a fan.

  • I like Lincoln for the boys name. But in my personal opinion Beckett sounds like a boys name.

  • I like Lincoln Robert, but as PP said my first thought about Beckett was that it's a very masculine name.

  • Adding in my two cents as we were in a similar situation - we are having a girl and love the name Charlie for a girl, but the more I thought about it, I thought it was unfair to give her a masculine name with no options in case she wants something more feminine or something differently professionally when she's older. Because of that, we'll probably do Charlize as a formal name and Charlie will be what we call her, so she has a choice. That doesn't work for Beckett, but if you like unisex names for girls (as I do), maybe something with a formal option?
  • I see Lincoln as a girl name only because I have a friend that named her daughter that. I would flip the names and sex and I like them both Lincoln for girl Beckett for Boy.

  • @rogue237 A couple of my good friends have a daughter named Charli (without the E). I don't really bat an eye at it. They live in the south (Alabama) and I don't think it seems quite so out of the ordinary there.

see, i think of charlie as being MUCH more girl-friendly than beckett!  charlie is a nickname for charlotte (or charlize, in your case) and i wouldn't bat an eye at that.  charlie is a ridiculously adorable name for a little girl!
  • I voted that I like only one, the boy name. Though I "like" your  girl name, for me, all I have heard Beckett for is a boy, so that's what I think. Love Joy as a middle name!

  • @Bluebird2318 & @MamaFantastic - thanks ladies! I more meant naming her Charlie as the formal name and not being short for anything. I'd feel bad if she ended up hating that it was too boyish or wanting something more formal for resumes, etc, so we thought adding a formal, more feminine name to it would work. Definitely not the same as Beckett - I'm not sure you could "girly" up Beckett, but if the OP likes boyish names for girls in general...
  • I like both names, and if you do go with Beckett (Thanks @BiggerInRealLife for the Kate Beckett knowledge, lol...) I think you could call her Becks? Or Beck? I have a friend named Rebecca and she loathes Becky, but goes by Becks.. Professionally, she could be Beckett and as a nn it could be shortened.

Do what youre going to be happy with, yelling off a front porch or like, during punishment, lol... (Frank advice from my grandmother.. ) :)

  • I'm really not a fan of using last names as first names, let alone using masculine sounding last names for girl names. So neither, for me.

  • Beckett just makes me think of someone going by their last name (I watch too much Castle apparently).  I like Lincoln Robert though - I have a friend with a nephew named Lincoln, and he's such a cutie!

I like the boy name but I would never have guessed Beckett was a girl. I had to read your post a couple times to make sure I was understanding correctly and it was indeed your girl and boy name, and not asking to choose between two boy names. Just a bit of a 'did not compute' moment.

  • I love Beckett for a girl I think it's different. Not a fan of Lincoln I feel like its a fad name. Not sure if you follow celebs/teen mom but one of the moms named her 2nd child Lincoln a few weeks ago so it's only going to get more popular, if that matters to you!

With my friends Charli is indeed the full name. :) I actually like it. I think it's sweet. But I think Charlize NN Charlie is a good idea also!

I thought the same thing about Beckett!  I think Beckett Joy sounds nice, but I'm not a fan of boy names for girls or super unique/first time names.  I don't know any "Beckett"s except for Castle, but it could be more popular in other areas making me clueless. :-)  It's your baby, so go with your gut!
  • I like Lincoln Robert, though the name is not my personal style but Beckett to me sounds like a boys name. More power to you but those are my two cents.
    This.

  • beckett could always be shortened to becky if she wanted something more feminine
  • I like Lincoln. Beckett sounds like a boy or a last name.
