Stomach ulcer?

Has anyone had a stomach ulcer before? I had one this summer...it was the most stressful couple months I ever had at my job and that's when the pain in my upper abdomen started. I was able to
kick it without antibiotics by taking Pepcid AC before meals and cutting back on highly acidic foods. Eventually it stopped altogether. Now I feel like it is back again, probably from my lowered immune system and having been craving vinegar so much. Pepcid is on my safe list of meds from my doctor, so I'm going to try this for a couple days to see if it helps. Is there anything else I can do? Has anyone had one not only in general but while pregnant? I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow anyway but was just curious about other people's experiences.

Edited for grammar.

Re: Stomach ulcer?

  • I don't have my own experience with this but my mom has had issues with ulcers. What I'd suggest, based on my mom's experience, is getting checked out to make sure that the cause isn't actually bacterial. Since it seems to be recurring, it would be worth finding out what exactly is causing it because if it does turn out to be bacterial, Pepcid will only cover it up for a while and in the long run, it will get worse. That's what happened to my mom and it was awful.

Thanks- that's a good idea. Def don't want it to keep coming back and getting worse!

Thanks! :) I did end up going to the doctor today just to make sure. Basically he said Pepcid 2x day until the pain is gone, and my OB was OK with this approach. I'm not opposed to more invasive examination of the situation but would want to wait until after I have LO, so just trying to keep it under wraps for the coming months!
