We've been on hold with anything nursery related due to our flooring situation (don't ever buy from Lumber Liquidators). Since I can't really get ready for baby, and I'm dying to do something, I'm thinking I might as well start getting ready for my recovery after delivery. I'm a FTM and know that there is probably stuff that I'm not thinking of that I'll need...
Regular pads? Are any brands better than others?
Nursing pads? Un-sexy underwear? Is there anything that you couldn't live without or that I'm not thinking of? Thanks in advance

I HATED with a burning passion those huge pads and mesh undies they give you at the hospital. I know some people swear by and love them, but I send MH home for some cotton underwear and the Always Infinity pads I had picked up for later on an felt SOOO much better! The always infinity were awesome, btw, I got the overnight size for at first and then switched to the heavy flow and regular as things got more manageable.
Definitely pick up some black cotton undies that you don't mind getting gross. I liked having dark yoga pants to wear around the house as well. You'll look about 5 months pregnant after the baby is born as it takes awhile for all the swelling to go down.

My nurses at the hospital also made ice diapers and they were amazing! Definitely going to try to recreate that since I won't be in the hospital this time.

Stool softners!!! OMG I can't stress that enough! I had stitches in places you don't want... And you don't want to tear a stitch pooping!
Also nursing pads and nursing tanks and an awesome house coat!
Having been torn and had an episiotomy, the numbing spray they gave me at the hospital was amazing. I can't remember what it's called, I'll edit this tonight with the name of it. I bought like 10 cans and sprayed before and after I went to the bathroom.
Gunna echo the other ladies and say stool softeners for sure.
Mostly been said already. My hospital sent me home with a Sitz bath and peri bottle. Tucks pads, hydrocortisone cream and dermoblast (the numbing spray@amandapthompson) and pads. I was told to alternate the use of the cream to ever other change. I loved the mesh undies, never had an issue with them falling down.
I ended up buying some more tucks, cream and pads because I ran out.
I also had a bulk supply of lanolin or oils and nursing pads for relief and protection.
And Percocet's, I had them for the first week, man, they helped.

Super helpful post...anyway we can make this sticky? I'm not going to remember all of this later...@huskymomma94 @bunnyfungo
Loved the ice packs from the hosptial I stole a bunch and brought them home. As for the an extra spray bottle of the cooling anticeptic that is amazing on stiches. I agree Tucks pads are worth it.
Also for those who are just going to formula feed get some extra sports bras. I wore 2 at time until I dried up. Also cabbage leaves from the fridge help so much!

It seems pretty complete, though I've never experiences this before, so I can't be sure.

Yes please!! Very helpful post!!!
useful thread - thanks to everyone for contributing
You can buy a waterproof mattress pad for your bed on Amazon, which is what I did. My water never broke with DS, but in his 19 months of life there have been several pee, spit up and bottle leakage incidences. So glad I invested in one!
One, a robe. Not some big puffy one, just a nice light robe that you can quickly throw on over things to make you feel more comfortable for if people come by, or if you wanna go see baby etc.
Two, something to do in case you can't see baby and you get ansy, my first had jaundice and sadly I was unable to see her almost the whole time, I got super impatient and uneasy, my husband had to go home to get me a movie to watch.
Three, buy a breast pump, this isn't necessary for the hospital, but you will not want to leave the house to get one on those few days following labor. Even if you are planning on breast feeding or using formula, buy a cheap handheld one if you want, but do get one. I planned on breast feeding only, and my DD decided she did not wanna nurse, even the lactation specialist couldn't get her to, after a week of not getting any milk out I was in soooo much pain, I remember squeezing milk out with my hands because they were so full! I ended up buying a hand pump, then a week later I bought an expensive electric one.
