My head cold is making me feel awful. It wouldn't be a problem if I could take something but I'm stuck completely plugged up. Any suggestion on what might help? I'm not sleeping at night, my lips are super chapped, my head hurts. And I found ear plugs under DH'S pillow. Poor guy. Has anyone used a neti pot before? I'm scared to do it.

For your head have your tried cold or warm compresses? The cold compress cures my Killer head aches when Tylenol just isn't cutting it. Also have you tried Vic's rub? I put it under my nose and on my chest. Hope you feel better soon.

Awww poor thing. My mom lives on the neti pot. Try rubbing vicks on the bottom of your feet and put socks on. Try a steamy shower, let in run and inhale the steam. Gl n feel better.

Oh no, that sounds miserable! Are you using Vicks? I love that stuff. I really like the netti pot thing myself, I use the squeeze bottle one instead of the pot thing but it's the same concept. That will clear your sinuses up very quickly! But the downside is that it may clear them up to the point of getting really dried out, so if you use it, take it easy at first. Hope you feel better!

I've read that Afrin is completely safe in pregnancy, and that stuff is miraculous when your are super congested! It doesn't matter how badly congested I am, within two minutes I'm completely clear the whole night and not drippy at all. The downside is that you can only use it for about three days or your sinuses get sort of addicted. I highly recommend it to get a good night's sleep.

for temporary congestion relief i recommend not the neti pot but something similar.

it's a squeeze bottle so you can control the pressure. i loooooove mine. it's only temporary relief though. when i had the flu a few years ago i would have to use it once before bed and then one more time in the middle of the night but the relief is instantaneous and entirely baby safe!

I love the neti pot (squeeze bottle is easier). A humidifier also helps. Sudafed is on my safe list, too. I slather my lips in vaseline when i sleep . Sorry you're sick. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks girls! I couldn't use the neti pot because I'm too plugged and the water has nowhere to go. I did use saline spray, the humidifier and caved and took Tylenol for my pounding head. I actually slept last night! Now, my nose better start draining and fast because if I can't enjoy my thanksgiving food, I'm going to be very disappointed!

I know, I just found out and was so relieved! I haven't needed it so far this fall/winter, but I'm sure I will at some point! That stuff is amazing when you're super congested!

For the chapped lips try blistex medicated. It's gotta be the medicated stuff. Sometimes I apply it to my nose if that gets chapped from blowing. Works like a charm for me.

Thanks ladies! My doctor said only to use Afrin if there's no history of high blood pressure in the family. I'm going to try a hot shower tonight before bed to see if that helps. @letsgobowlingx, thanks for the reminder about cleaning out the neti pot. I will be sure to do that first.
