My update. Kidney stones and DS

Hey everyone. Thanks so much for the T&P the other day and special thanks to my LB @cherylnicole. I am home from the hospital now. After about 24 hours of the most excruciating pain of my life I passed the stone. It was so big it was being passed around the nurses and doctors like a trophy or something. Haha. The bad news is I still have a 1.5 cm stone left. They would have kept me to take care of it but can't because I'm pregnant. I will meet with the urologist Tues and probably plan surgery once the baby is here. In the mean times pieces of it could continue to pass which terrifies me. So no baby yet but I'm patiently waiting.

Also, I saw the development Ped for DS today and she thinks a lot of his problems stem from his phobia of the potty. She wants us to try some different stuff but its all stuff we've tried 100 x. If it doesn't work we'll have to go back and they are going to evaluate him more. I feel like its inevitable but we'll try their recommendations again.

Eta: sorry for the horrible English on mobile and my phone is crapping out.

  • Very sad you still have a stone to pass, I have heard they are a understandably a bit painful. I hope the recommendations work for your LO this time around.

  • Thanks for the update hon. Glad to hear you're at least on the mend and that you finally got in to see that specialist. I know you're going to figure out the solution, and soon.

  • Sorry the dev ped wasn't more helpful :( remember if you need any other help with stuff to try or how to modify things I'm available. Glad you passed a stone but sads that you have another one :( pretty sure the biggest badass around here, laboring and passing kidney stones....damn girl!

  • Thanks again girls! I was having contractions in the hospital but they were about 20 minutes apart and I'm only 1 cm dilated. My kidney stone is bigger than that lol. I am just hoping the big stone stays put until I have the baby. They said it is too big to pass at once but it could come out in stages.

  • oh man, what a terrible thing to have to go through while pregnant! :/  So glad that big stone is passed & out of the way before you have to think about labor!  Hoping things go well with the other stone & that you're able to get some good advice & help for DS!
  • This too shall pass.... Really... All of it, but gracious-That's huge! Sorry there's more, but my prayer for you is that now , labour will be a mere 'Achoo!' comparatively speaking.

I will say the when the pain from the stone was at it's worse, it was worse for me than labor with DS1. Maybe in a weird way this will make labor easier.

  • Ugh, poor you....I've never had a kidney stone, but I hear the pain is hell on earth. Glad you were able to pass the big one...hopefully the smaller one won't give you too much trouble till after you give birth and can aggressively treat it. And I hope things turn around with a potty training miracle, too! It's not an easy process by any means.

  • Stones are the worst. I had them twice and the pain is unbearable. All the hugs! And sorry about the frustration with DS's ped. This too shall pass!

  • Sorry to hear you're going through this.  I was just in the hospital over the weekend for severe abdominal pain, which turns out I have multiple kidney stones in both kidneys.  I had a stent placed in the left kidney as a stone was blocking it and causing an infection.  No passing of any stones though, I've heard that is terrible, terrible pain!!  I hope you're feeling better and that the future treatment takes care of it without more painful passing of large stones!

I had an unconfirmed kidney stone with my first pregnancy. They didn't want to do anything exploratory, so kept me in L&D until the pain was over. It was about as bad as the back labour I was in with D1 before they did the cs.
H has had then a few times, and one ER nurse said one night she'd been through labour and stones. Comparable and even worse perhaps, she thought .
