When will your OB/MW induce you?

Seems like we have a lot of non medically indicated inductions being scheduled for 38-40 weeks. Just wondering what the concensus is on when OB/MW's are suggesting these. Again, this is not for you ladies who have medical issues like high BP, pre e, GD, etc. this is for those with no medical indications for an induction. This is not meant to criticize why you're having it or why you wouldn't it's just a poll to gauge at what point OB/MW's are suggesting/offering inductions.

My MW, unless medically indicated will not induce before 41 weeks.

  • Mine won't induce until 41 weeks but prefers to wait till 42 weeks.
  • Unless a problem comes up, he waits 7-10 days after the due date to induce.

  • My OB hasn't discussed it with me, yet, and I haven't asked, but according to the practice's website, they don't even assess you until 41 weeks.
  • @cboyington I have to ask if mine will let me go to 42, as uncomfortable as I am I think I'd wait. Bless the people around me but I'd wait.

It used to be right around the 42 week mark, scheduling during my 41w appt if I made it that far. Now that my blood pressure is acting up I may be induced next weekend at 40w + a couple days. I find out next Thursday.

Fx for maintaining a good BP. I'm in the same boat :/

I am miserable and would love to have LO early but I refuse to induce without a medical reason or a late late baby. I feel so sorry for everyone close to me. I am EVIL. Haha

    this for me too

Mine got scheduled for Tuesday so I will technically be induced 39 weeks 6 days. What my doctor wanted to do and I trust him so that's what we are doing.
Eta just to clarify I voted 40 weeks.

It was my third high week *sigh* so I don't have high hopes for next week. Of course I am over being pregnant but I really didn't want to be induced at any point. I am hoping to go into labor on my own still. FX!!!

I'll send some labor vibes out! Here's to hoping both our LOs decide to come all on there own!

    :)

  • I'm being induced @ 38 weeks 5 days. They said because of bp issues...but my numbers were okay today, so a bit confusing. I had placenta issue so they weren't going to let me make it to 41 weeks (typically they induce@ 41.5 weeks). It seemed like more of a convenience to schedule it for that day (I could be wrong since I'm not sure what the mfm said, my OB seem to think the mfm wouldn't want me to go past 39 weeks).
  • I don't know if you would consider hip dysplasia & sciatica a medical reason. It doesn't affect him but it causes my leg to go numb & fall. For this reason I will be induced at 39w2d. If I was having no complications it would be 41 weeks.

Yes as a therapist I would definitely consider hip dysphasia a medical reason to be induced. Your ligaments are already super loose so allowing your pelvic girdle to continue to be stretched and possibly risk your ability to actively participate in your own labor, absolutely a reason to be induced!

  • With ds2, my induction was scheduled for 41w4d but I went naturally at 41w1d. This time around I would consider it at 41w or even 40.5.
  • He won't let me go past 41 but before then he said its a decision between me and him as long as I'm past my EDD
  • Mine is 40 weeks on the dot, next wed. at 9 a.m. !!

  • Mine won't even have the conversation until the first NST past 40 weeks. They don't let you go past 42 weeks, but will let you schedule at 42 and 0 exactly.

  • My OB said 10 days over is the latest she'd let me go.
  • We haven't even talked about so not sure I'll ask next week when I go in for check up.
  • Mine will start considering it after 39 weeks if conditions are favorable but it is completely up to me at that point. I was against being induced until I found out today that my ob will be out of town for a few days starting 4 days after my due date. So I am seriously considering seeing about being induced at 40w.

  • I didn't vote because I haven't discussed this with my OB yet. I'm feeling very behind compared to other posts I'm reading and I now have a ton of questions to ask at my appointment next week.

  • I am over the moon about doing it at 40 weeks ((with my third child)) and my OB believes from her over 20 years of doing this, it is best for me and my baby, so bring on the inducement! :-)

  • Sometimes if you wait to long it can actually put your baby at risk. Last time at 42 weeks I had a 10 pound baby. This along with other reasons which she feels it is best for me. I trust her judgement as she has been my OB for over 12 years and has the medical degree.

  • Mine will induce at 40 weeks but I am also 38 years old.  Normally he does it at 41.

This I can understand because you have a history. I have a similar history. I cannot understand the FTMs with none. Or the STM with none. This whole induction thing makes me so angry. I need a snickers!!
  • Oh snickers, that sounds delightful!

  • I didn't answer because I have GD but even with GD I'm not being induced unless I go to 41 weeks!
    image
  • I have diet controlled GD and my midwife won't induce me until 41 weeks.

  • Mine wont let you go past 42 weeks, but will induce right at 40 weeks if you want. At todays appt she told me she was putting me on the induction list in case I go past my due date (I'm due the 8th) but I told her I wouldn't do it until I was at least 4 or 5 days overdue. I'm terrified of being induced and not progressing quickly enough for them and being forced into a csection.

I'm not outraged just generally confused. And like all your doctors have medical degrees so does mine and the others that prefer to wait till 41/42 weeks. Just sayin

It confuses me too. Especially since I have GD I totally thought I'd be induced early because of it. But since it's diet controlled I won't be. My OB's office is so anti induction unless there is something seriously wrong. I'm glad because I'd rather not force nature if I don't have to.

This was pretty much the exact conversation I had with my OB. It doesn't help that 41 weeks is Christmas Eve and I'm pretty sure they aren't scheduling inductions the 24 or 25.

  • My ob and I talked and he said at 39 weeks if my cervix is progressing and baby looks good. I said I wanted to wait til my due date and then the day after induce. He said when we start cervix checks on Monday we can set a date.
  • My OB said it's up to me when I'd like to be induced once I hit 40 weeks, though I didn't have a conversation about how late she'd let me go.  We'll talk about it if I'm still pregnant at my next appt which is 39w3 days.

She did say that since I was 3cm dilated and 50% effaced at my 38w appt, that induction already wouldn't involve any cervix softening- it would just be pitocin and water breaking to augment labor since my body is showing signs of being ready (good bishop score, etc.)

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable going past 41w as the number of stillbirths goes up, not down, from that point on.
  • My GP has a 10 day over rule, as long as nothing is indicating that baby needs to come a bit sooner. As this puts an induction on Christmas Day for me she said she would consider 8 days over so it would be the 23rd, but ONLY if she felt there was a reason to do so. She then said she had no problem being available on Christmas Day though, so I don't think she really wants to bend her rule.

Specifically she stated that she wanted to give me the best chance possible of delivering drug-free, and since induction would not be that, she is more inclined to wait.

The rational side of me is delighted she is so pro-natural drug free births, the uncomfortable side of me says I just want this baby out!!! Lol
  • My doc won't schedule an induction with no medical reasons before 10-14 days post due date.

  • Mine will only let you go one week late at 41w. I'm 100% effaced and 2cm but baby is just happy in there (almost 38w) so just waiting it out!
