Did you wash baby's clothes?

Anyone wash, fold, and put away all of baby's clothes?? I'm in the "no, no I didn't" camp. I'm overwhelmed by how much I bought and with girl clothes, especially, there are tons of pieces to each outfit.
I think bc I have to wash DS' clothes, I'm just not excited for DD's to be added into that mix.
Neeeed motivationnnnn.....

Re: Did you wash baby's clothes?

  • Yes I did (FTM here). Everyone told me not to wash all of it and keep tags on because who knows how long she will be in each size, but - no one included gift receipts and I have no idea where any of the clothes are from. So, I washed and put them away- it makes me feel better to feel prepared!

  • Nope.. Not one piece. It's hanging as they're mostly hand me downs from DD # 3. But haven't washed a thing.
  • Do I get brownie points if I had the best intentions to at least wash the newborn and some 0-3 stuff over the weekend but only sorted out what I wanted to wash?

I only plan on washing the NB, some 0-3 essentials and all the bedding/blankets before he comes.  Even though I know he won't be in the crib for some time I'm really excited to see his crib all dressed and ready.

  • I only washed the nb and 3 mo clothes. Everything else still has tags.
  • I plan on organizing by size and washing up to 6 months. My friend gave me clothes, but I honestly don't know if I want to use them bc I don't want to remember which are hers. I also would feel bad putting her initials on the tags since they don't belong to me.

I'd like to think that once we have a dresser in LO's room, I'll be motivated to wash and put his clothes away. But I highly doubt that will be the case.

  • I haven't. I figure right before Christmas is soon enough. It's not like she'd wear any of it if she is born before Christmas anyway.

  • I have washed NB and 0-3 months - but it's all hand-me-downs from DS1 and it's been in and out of storage units/basements.

  • No yet. I have everything ready to go in laundry baskets but haven't washed anything just yet.

  • I washed the towels, washcloths, sheets, dust ruffle, and mattress pad a couple of weeks ago.

My furniture is scheduled to be delivered 12/6.  Once it is here and set up I will wash the 0-3 months clothes.  I will probably leave the tags on everything else right now.

I washed my newborn and 0-3 months, socks, burp cloths, towels, wash cloths, and blankets. That's about it.

  • Yes, because I had a good weekend where for once in that past two years I was actually caught up with our family laundry and didn't know when the opportunity would come again ;)

I'm not too concerned with returns/cutting tags because I would keep a baby here in long sleeves/pants until April/May anyway... so I'm pretty confident that all the 0-6m stuff will work no matter how big/small she is.

  • I'm on mobile and I went back 3 or 4 pages. Not interested on when is a good time or what sizes. I wanted to see if people were procrastinating like me and if I should be lighting the fire under my own ass bc I'm likely the only one that didn't wash anything yet.
Since I have a child already, I know what I need to do, but it's doing it that's killing me.

  • I actually did wash the NB - 3 mo. clothing. Most of it was from DS which were neutral colours & sleepers, which I don't care if they're blue with dinosaurs since it's just me at night that see's her!
My mom pulled out some of my baby clothes and I washed that also! Blankets, bedding etc, are already done!

Have I packed my bag for the hospital yet, despite having 1 L&D scare, Nope! Do I keep saying I'm going to, Yup!

This.  I am in the process of washing all NB, 0-3 and 3 month clothes, as well as all blankets, towels, washcloths, sheets, etc.  Don't see the point in waiting as I know I won't return them and I don't think we have an inordinate amount of stuff.

This is me. Half the reason I don't want to order her dresser is because I don't want to deal with all the clothes. Plus I'm in serious denial about this kid.
  • yuppers! FTM washed everything and are put away. my shower isn't until the 14th so i wanted to get a jump ahead and besides i had a nasty cold all weekend and was getting stir crazy in the house so it occupied me

  • I washed everything to the 3 month mark. I feel like everything is ready to go except the little man. My Christmas shopping is done, nursery is done, decorations are done. I keep feeling like I'm forgetting something but I don't know what it is... It's driving me mad.
  • I washed everything up to 9 months. I was working on organizing everything before, and then realized how pointless it was since I was going to have to take it all down to wash anyway. I'm not too concerned with LO not fitting into things, eventually he should fit in the bigger stuff....and we don't have too many smaller items.

  • I washed everything, but have to again now since we are moving in 2 weeks and they will be in boxes GRRR

  • Yes, I did. I'm reusing some stuff from my older boys, but since they were summer babies and this one is winter I needed to buy some new stuff and I borrowed a bunch of stuff from a friend. I'd rather things smell like me/my detergent than someone else, is that weird?

  • It was exhausting just washing and putting away the towels, wash cloths and swaddling blankets in my linen closet.  I still have a pile of DS' clothes in a laundry bag.  I'll do that over Xmas break.

@ANDYLEAH -- I've been in L&D three times and my OB basically told me she expects me to deliver early before Christmas, but I can't bring myself to pack the bag. But I think I might start getting some stuff together this weekend.

As far as washing the clothes, I really don't have many clothes. I've washed the newborn and 0-3 month stuff and will probably wash the rest this weekend. Most of the stuff didn't have receipts, wasn't on the registry -- and like I said, I barely got any clothes. So I'm not too worried about it.
  • I just washed everything this weekend. I was super excited that the dresser and crib arrived last week, it motivated me. Newborn and 0-3 months clothing is all washed and put away.
  • Yes, I'm in the process of washing and folding now. Especially since I'm a FTM and most of the clothes I've received as gifts have been sitting in a store or storage area, I want them clean before putting them on baby! I have sensitive skin, so I want to be cautious in the beginning.

  • I've washed and put away pretty much everything unless it was 9mo+ (I got a few 18m outfits at my shower). I actually didn't wash all the NB clothes simply because I'm not convinced he'll ever fit in them.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • No and I probably won't. DS1 has the most sensitive skin in the world but never reacted to new clothes. All the clothes are put away but the new ones have tags on them. The old ones were washed before they were stored and then were stored inside in Rubbermaid containers so I'm just not concerned.
  • I haven't yet. Today I went through all of our shower gifts and sorted everything and threw out a bunch of packaging. That was really scary. I had a million thoughts going through my mind the whole time.

So I now have a box full of new clothes, most of which I left the tags on, and at my moms place, I have a couple more boxes of hand-me-downs that also need washing. But since the nursery still isn't finished, I'm not bothering to wash them. Once the furniture is put together and in her room I will wash everything and put it away. I am seriously hoping that this happens before she is born!

  • Washed, yes.  Put away, no.  I am still waiting on some sort of dresser or bin storage system for the nursery before that happens.  I have basically just washed everything, folded it, and set it in her crib until I figure out my next move.

  • I'm organizing and sorting now...well kind of... That is my plan for the night. I've only gotten as far as counting how many things I have per size. It'll get there, eventually.

  • @ashleywiz How do you prepare clothes for team green? I'm really curious because we decided to find out just so we can prepare, but everyone is telling me I'm having a boy by the way I'm carrying, but the u/s said its a girl so the next time around..I might be team green.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @redsaffron --- really anything works except for the things with bows or that say boy on them. I figure anything that looks boyish you can make girly with a headband! So we went with mostly grays, yellows, greens - and then just solid multicolor things. Just nothing that says girl or boy on it. :) plus- onesies are pretty unisex in general minus the super decorated ones- and since we don't have AC, we know that's mostly what baby will wear in general. I also am told I am "definitely having a boy" because of how I carry- and precisely why I guess girl. Gotta root for the underdog! Haha. I honest have no preference either way though.

  • @ashleywiz Good points! When I look at baby clothes it seems like it's pretty much black & white, I mean pink or blue haha. It might be more fun to find clothes that are unisex, but Maui is seriously limited..we don't have specialty baby shops like Carters, Children's house, or even Gap Baby..it's so sad and funny at the same time that all the babies here have the same clothes because everyone buys them at the same place: Walmart, kmart, or Ross.

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @redsaffron yeah that is true. But if you have a little girl there have got to be a bazillion local stores with adorable dresses and stuff. Do you have cinnamon girl over there?
    CafeMom Tickers
  • I haven't yet. Probably will though. I did with DD. I washed everything though and wished I hadn't because she got stuff that she never wore because it didn't fit when the season was appropriate for her to wear it. (All babies grow so much different) so I'll def. be washing smaller chunks this time.

  • FTM here...so all washcloths, towels, sheets, blankets, hats, and socks are washed. Since our baby hasn't cooperated at our ultrasounds, I bought a huge lot of boys clothes and a huge lot of girls clothes from a mom2mom sale on FB. I have washed, sorted and organized all of it by size and type in baby's closet. The few new outfits that we have still have tags on them...I don't want to wash them till I know for sure that we are having a boy or girl. Hopefully, at our ultrasound next week we'll be able to find out what we're having.
