1st Trimester

Nausea - It's getting worse

I am 6 weeks pregnant. For the past week and a half I've been experiencing 24 hour (almost) nausea.  Up until a few days ago it was manageable through wearing Sea-Band, pregnancy pops, ginger ale, and eating small meals.  The only problem was sleeping through the night due to being nauseous.

The past two days it's gotten much worse.  No matter what I eat or do I feel like I could throw up at any moment.  What am I doing wrong?  What else can I do?

  • You're pregnant, you're not doing anything wrong.  Generally it gets worse before it gets better, most ladies see it peak around 12 weeks.  It sucks.  You can try unisom (the original formula works for nausea, the gels don't).  B6 is supposed to help.  If it's really bad you can see if your insurance covers Zofran.  If you get to the point where it's dehydrating you, you need to call your doctor right away. GL!

  • I understand your pain.Try keeping saltines by your bed. I find eating those in the morning before my feet even touch the floor helps with the nausea. Also DH bought me ginger ale. Vernors is too sweet for me so I drink Canada Dry.

You're not doing anything wrong. You're pregnant and this is how your body is handling it. Try to relax.

  • If it is really bad, ask your OB for Zofran. It had to take it through my first AND second tri because my sickness was so bad I could not keep anything down.  It was amazing! I didn't feel 100% better, but at least I could eat.

  • My Dr. told me three days ago to dry 50mg of B6 twice a day (morning and night) and when I take it at night take 1/2 a Unisom tablet with it. It was magic! It has helped me like no other.

  • Thanks ladies! My doc won't even see me for another 2 1/2 weeks to do my first u/s, so I feel weird begging for medicine when they haven't even confirmed it "officially" yet.

Nnh, I am right there with you. However, it freaks me out because I am only 6 weeks pregnant, so I have a long road ahead of me if I can't get this under control.

If you just call you OB's nurse and let them know you have hardly been able to keep any food/water down for the past couple days, they'll likely get you a prescription right away without being seen.

  • I'm 9 1/2 weeks, and nothings working for me.  Zofran isn't helping anymore, I've tried every over the counter, try to eat little snacks through out the day, but now all those foods (saltines, nuts, pretzels, etc.) are making me sick because my mind associates them with the nausea.  Don't get me started on ginger.

I am finally doing the unisom+B6 at night, so I'm hoping that will help.  I definitely sympathize because it's so hard to get all my work done and be a good teacher every day when I can't get rid of my nausea and can barely sleep.  And I'm losing weight.

I'm just praying that I'll see relief in the second trimester!  Can't come soon enough!

  • Try Preggie Pops. You can find them at Baby's R Us. They worked wonders on me. Hope you feel better but it all comes with the territory of being pregnant.
