Sometimes I just want to vent but I don't want to clog up the feed with my whinging. We could have a check in if anyone else is interested. I know there will be more of us as time goes on (sadly).

  • There's a High Risk Pregnancy Board on the bump, and that might be a helpful resource in addition to check-ins.

  • I'm diabetic, too.  Type 2-but I've gone from well-controlled to having a lot of difficulty the moment I got pregnant.  These darn hormones.

I have never been one for the high risk board.  Honestly, a lot of it just freaks me out.  I don't feel sick and I prefer not to borrow trouble as much as possible.  I just want to vent about not being able to give into cravings and all that other annoying stuff.

Although, of course I don't mind if others want to vent about more serious stuff.

That makes sense. I can commiserate about not being able to give in to cravings. I'm still nursing, and I have dietary restrictions because of my LO's food allergies. I avoid venting because if I do, most people will just suggest I stop nursing. As you said, sometimes you just want to vent, and it's not about looking for advice.

  • I probably will be, but not until the last trimester. I've had cholestasis twice, and I figure I'll have it again. I just hope it doesn't start too soon!

  • I had cholestasis last pregnancy too and placenta previa, but the placenta moved, thankfully. I was induced at 37 weeks.
  • Cholestasis ladies-I hope you don't get it again.  That sounds so miserable.

  • my dr is starting me out as high risk but she said that may or may not change. I was considered high risk my last two pregnancies as well. This time its because a> I have very active lupus right now and b> I just had leep to remove cancer off of my cervix and in my uterus. I havent even had a follow up to see if we got it all or if I was supossed to have chemo... which now will have to wait. This baby truly is our little miracle in a dark time... praying that he/she sticks around!!!
  • oh and two pregnancies ago I had placental abruptions and last pregnancy I bled the whole time off and on. We never figured out what it was after they diganosed me with a miscarriage then at 13 weeks along I found out that I had a healthy little one growing in there.
  • Wow @707mama.  I hope things go perfectly for you this pregnancy.

  • @Lori_n_Lior - No, I've never had gallbladder or liver issues...just something special that happens to me when I'm pregnant. Ha!

  • I'm not sure if I'm classified as High Risk my doc avoided labeling but I sure feel at least "mid-risk" lol. I have a blood clotting issue, but the first time around a baby aspirin each day avoided any clots thank god. I did have to go in twice a week though towards the end of my pregnancy, joy.

  • High risk due to severe anemia. :( xx
  • I'm high risk with type 2 diabetes and being over weight. I have drastically changed my diet from the moment I saw my BFP. I've lost 10lbs in 2 weeks, due to M/S, but OB said that was fine. I've given up almost all carbs at night so my blood sugar won't be high in the morning. I'm hoping to stay off of insulin as long as possible. So far, I've been able to stay within the range my doc gave me. It is definitely hard to find things that I want to eat that I CAN eat.

  • i'm pretty sure i'll be classified as high risk.  i've got autoimmune issues with a history of ITP (fortunately resolved for now), i'm ANA positive (fortunately not active lupus), and currently have (not so fortunately) a giant ass fibroid.  i know i'll be monitored throughout by my hematologist who wants to keep an eye on my platelets.  the crazy thing is that my fertility doc has me on baby aspirin and lovenox!

@707mama  what are they doing for your active lupus?  are you on prednisone?

I've had GD with both prior pregnancies so I think I have like a 90% chance of having it again. I also have blood pressure issues - It gets too low in the first trimester and too high in the third.

I'm really dreading the diet. My high risk dr is SUPER strict! If my numbets dont average 100 every week she puts you on insulin. I avoided it so far but I pretty much had to starve with DD2.

I also vote for a bitchathon... I mean check in :)

  • yes, I am high risk due to previsous pre-eclampsia, m/c and + MTHFR gene mutation. I haven't had my first OB appointment just a dating u/s and several blood draws.

I vote for a check in too because like others mentioned the high risk board is a little too scary for me as well

  • PregsMcSnoozalot ... They said we would discuss it at my first official appt which is today. However today they are concentrating on why I was heavily spotting all day yesterday and I had these horrible sharp cramps like right above the vagina. A couple of them made me grab myself there. LOL. I think cervix type pains but cant be certain :( Just praying everything is ok. I cried so much last night. Today I have horrible nausea so I'm going to hope thats a good sign

before I got pregnant they gave me Plaquenil but I never took it. Not sure if they will put me on that or something else, or see what happens. My dr said that it does increase the risk of miscarriage and since I'm 35 with that it was worrisome but pretty much like all things at Kaiser, they wait till you misscarry to think ahead to the next one, not conectrate on the baby thats baking now. Drives me batty. I was diagnosed with lupus at a very young age (I shattered my ellbow when I was 8 and they think it caused the lupus to come out) but went in remission when I was in high school. It remained in remission through my last 3 pregnancies but around a year after I had my son, I got REALLY sick... 106 fevers sick. In the process I got the rash on my face and sure enough they tested me and found out I was out of remission. The lupus had decided to pick on my liver. Ever since then I get a lot of flare ups. At least two a month, however I hate being on meds so was just learning to manage it and was doing ok with that.
  • @mags2point0 ... did you have your gallbladder out?? I had TERRIBLE morning sickness (my entire pregnancy) and then discovered my gallbladder was kicking the bucket after almost a year after delivery. I had mine out and oh the heartburn this time around. But I can't complain because by this time with the last one I was puking my guts out morning noon and night. and I've yet to upset the apple cart yet! woohoo. although I came pretty close when my husband mentioned taco bell the other night.  :-&
  • oh and I was told I'll be high risk this time around too because of my history with pre e. :)

  • I am 41 years old & overweight... Checking for all the other crap

  • I haven't seen a doctor yet, my previous obgyn decided to move :( but last time around I also had gallbladder issues. I had it removed 9months post partum, resulting in a mess of other issues being revealed plus a bile leak and repair, Kidney stones, I haven't passed yet (pray I don't until after delivery), borderline diabetes but I've been able to control after losing 30+lbs.
I agree that heartburn is worse and ms is better without gallbladder.
Not sure if that qualifies me as high risk, since my apt isn't until Dec. 30.

  • e_cruiz I also have the MTHFR gene mutation
During my first pregnancy, I fell at 23 weeks, and had a DVT two weeks later.  They did lots of tests and found I have the mutation.  I was on Lovenox injections from that point on and then Heparin the last weeks of pregnancy, followed by six weeks of Lovenox postpartum.  Now, I am permanently labeled high risk.

I take plaquenil twice a day for my lupus. I saw my rheumy today and she said it's safe for pregnancy and to keep taking it. She did say that we need to try to avoid prednisone during first tri since it can cause birth defects.

    My Ovulation Chart

  • I have an incompetent cervix and will have a preventative cervical cerclage placed at the end of first tri. Did it with my last pregnancy and everything went great. I'll go every 2 weeks instead of monthly, and I'll be restricted from exercise and sex. Not looking forward to that, but it's all worth it for a healthy baby.

I had Pre-E last time and was induced at 33 weeks.  I haven't been technically classified as "high risk", but my BP is already high again and I'm only 9 weeks.

I also had 3 large gallstones, I just had my gallbladder removed last October.

Count me in! Because of my seizure disorder, I was told I would have to at least have a consult with the Maternal fetal medicine specialist before my dr agreed to handle my pregnancy. I have my first ultrasound and regular appt on 12/13 and my MFM appt is on 12/30. We will see after that appt if the high risk label sticks and what exactly that will mean for me.

  • I have an extremely irritable uterus and Oliver was born prematurely at 33 weeks. This time they are doing growth ultrasounds, steroid shots, and preterm labor meds are going to start up at about 20 weeks. Probably procardia or terbutaline.

  • I have endometriosis and have a rare bowel disease as well. I'm over the most critical parts, getting pregnant a d keeping it past 12 weeks!!
I've been on chronic pain meds since I was 13 years old. I'm 28 and have opted to try and stop them when I found out about baby.
So far so good. I've always taken high dose narcotics 10-8 a day and I'm down to 1- .5 a day. Going to lower the strength next week.
My family dr will take care of me as its cheeper but my OB will take over if needed. Plus they both deliver at my hospital I work at so I have two choices.
  • i just found out I'm at risk for pre eclampsia. I have MCAS/EDSIII ( over-active mast cells and hypermobility), and an intolerance to histamine, which I see might be involved with it. I find it's interesting some of you brought MTHFR mutations, as there may be a connection with MCAS/EDS III and preeclampsia.
