So scary! Glad you are ok!! We live where it's over populated with deer and we too gave hit then while traveling, it sucks. That's our fear every time we travel. I hope your car is ok.
Wow. That's scary. Glad you are all ok! Question: did the deer survive? Just curious.
I am 98% sure he did not. Honestly, we never found the deer. I didn't want DH looking for it in the tall grass on the side of the road because I was freaked out and wanted him to stay in the car with me. I believe the Sheriff was going to look for it after we left. I normally feel so sorry for the deer when it comes to these accidents, because it's not like they were trying to kill my family. But, since I am trying really hard not to be mad at DH or myself I am blaming the deer right now. So, a small part of me in this exact moment hopes it hurt him. (I know, I suck right now.) But, I truly hope he died because there is no way he fully recovers from that.
According to the NHTSA a carseat only needs to be replaced after a major wreck. So as long as you were able to drive the vehicle away from the crash site, the door nearest the carseat was undamaged, no one was injured(inside the vehicle, I am sure the deer was), the air bags didn't deploy, AND there is no visible damage to the carseat, it CAN be reused as long as you are comfortable with it.
Some car seat manufacturers say to replace it after ANY wreck regardless of intensity. Some don't. On that Facebook page (car seat for littles?) they recommend each person check the owners manual that comes with the seat and do what the manufacturer suggests.

This.
OP best bet is too call the manufacturer and double check. Your insurance should deft cover a new seat. I am so sorry you had to go through all that! I've hit a few deer in my time and it's so scary. Hopefully the insurance will cut you a check for your car! I don't blame you for being sentimental about losing your car. I would feel the same way. Take something from it and keep it always. Like the rear view mirror or something hahah Glad you are all ok and good luck with that new car seat!
