Do you want to do the UOs early this week? Because we're all going to be busy eating turkey on Thanksgiving? Should we make the UOs Thanksgiving themed?
I hate paper plates and plastic flatware for big holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Gravy and paper plates are not a good mix, people! I would rather see mismatched plates and silverware than matching plastic stuff.
Not exactly Thanksgiving related...or an UO for that matter...but I just fired DH from loading the dishwasher. I am so sick of having to redo it every time b/c he just jams everything in without regard to whether it is dishwasher safe. I thought we had worked out that he would do the dishes when I put DS to bed, but it looks like I get to do it all. Lucky me. I also get to spend nap times or nights ironing his clothes b/c he will apparently wear jeans or whatever crap he can find in his closet instead of actually ironing something himself. And yes I'm whining, and yes I have a bad attitude about it. Wah.

I would pull out the ones that aren't clean and stick them back on the counter for rewashing the next night. Rewashing by YH, that is.

I hate paper too. MIL bought a set of really tacky paper settings. I'm not using them. So wasteful and not for a big holiday. I'll do the dishes, I don't care
I'd rather cook the whole Thanksgiving dinner than have people bring over sides. I'm a control freak.
Are you sure your name isn't mandmeesh? . I told MIL to please not bring anything. I'm lucky she wants to help, but the one year I asked her to do one dish, she showed up two hours late to our house and STILL had to cook her dish! She didn't even bring them prepared, she brought a bag of ingredients. Ugh, no thanks.

I have tried this. He just puts them back in the dishwasher. I have also tried to explain that plastic on the bottom will melt. I even showed him a plastic canister that he melted. And yet what was on the bottom rack this morning? A plastic tray. And it was so not even the right size to go in the dishwasher. I nearly broke the top rack trying to get it out. Besides that, it just pisses me off that he won't even hand wash the few things that he has figured out don't go in the dishwasher. He leaves them for later, which means I wind up having to do them so the sink and counter isn't piled up with pans and crock pots. I'm pretty sure he thinks that I am now a SAH Maid.
@unaveragejane...if you can stand it, leave all the dishes to pile up and up and up. Keep a set for you and DS, leave all the dirties for YH. Dishes were a battle for us as well. MH does them now
@Mandmeesh, I would like to, but then I wouldn't be able to cook supper. I'm just not going to fight it anymore. Woo hoo for him, he wins. I am going to spend some money now.
I despise that stores are doing "Black Friday" sales on Thanksgiving. Holidays are for family time, or at least a day off. My friend said "I work in healthcare, my dad was a cop, we all work on holidays. Quit whining". I'm a nurse, as a public servant I don't expect to have holidays off. But I do think service sector employees shouldn't have to work. I mean for eff's sake, is nothing off limits to shopping anymore?
I hate cooking, and holidays are no exceptions. I'm glad we're expected to go to my mom's family's dinner, my IL's, and my dad's. I'm dreading ever having to be a grown up and host for thanksgiving or Christmas.
@haileyq As someone who works in retail, I'm glad someone from the outside feels that way. Everyone else says what you said, that doctors, nurses, firefighters, etc have to work, so we should quit complaining, or that you took a retail job knowing what it entails. Well, A) no one is going to die waiting one day for that effing sweater and some of us have been in retail since Black Friday was contained to Friday, when opening at 3AM was sill considered crazy. I'm just glad I'm not in management anymore and only work part time so I could take off a holiday day and chose thanksgiving. Seriously, we have families, too! And why are people choosing to shop rather than spend time with their families? It's just so messed up!

Same.
This is my first year hosting and I'm looking forward to making the meal. Every year my uncle "smokes" the turkey and it's so dry it's disgusting. My grandma puts like a hundred pineapples on the ham so it's gross too.
My sister is bringing the GBcasserole and I'm cool with that and another relative is bringing pies that she gets from this fabulous speciality bakery and I'm looking forward to those. The rest I'm doing though. I want it to taste good and I like it cooked my way best
I don't recall ever eating stuffing/dressing, but the thought of it just sickens me. Soggy bread mixed with mystery meat and too many herbs? Yuck!
How have you never had stuffing? And seriously, get off the bump right now and go try some! I can understand how the description sounds gross to you, but the combination is sooooo good. It's the best part of Thanksgiving.

Our Thanksgiving has always been buffet style since my grandma's house is pretty small. You just grab what you want and go! I will try a little this year to see what all the fuss is about.
I'm not really looking forward to thanksgiving this year with the mspi diet. The thought of food is overwhelming and I end up not eating too much. And I already get anxiety in crowds. (And a house full of family is a crowd to me!) I'm worn down tired and just not looking forward to having to be happy and chipper and eating crap TWICE!
And I've only had stuffing since being with DH and I can say I'm not a fan.
And since my food habits are random. I'm making brownies and banana bread for thanks giving. No pie please!

Oh yeah. I dislike ice cream.
You have my sympathies. It is so hard to be MSPI and eat at someone else's house. You can pretty much eat nothing unless you grill the host about the ingredients in everything. It sounds like you hate Thanksgiving normally, though, if you don't like stuffing, ice cream and pie
I am not going to go all sancitmommy on this or anything, but Stove Top (or any non homemade stuffing), packets of gravy, and dinner rolls that come half cooked in a tray. Do not go in Thanksgiving dinner! That shits gross! I don't mind it for simple dinners at home, but this dinner is special and it needs the good stuffing with giblets and crap in it, giblet gravy, and big ole yeasty rolls!
A non Thanksgiving UO, I think letting your kids decorate the inside of your car with non peel off stickers is tacky.

Nana, I agree, however I do really love Pillsbury crescent rolls. I am making homemade rolls for Thanksgiving this year, but I am totally okay with serving those at holidays. They are delicious!

Is this really a thing?!
Yes. Every time a go to the Y I see at least 5 vans or SUVs with the back windows plastered in stickers. It makes me wonder if the parents are just handing them sticker books.
I am making rolls as we speak for thanksgiving because that is what I was assigned although I am gluten free and cannot eat said rolls. Taking one for the team sucks sometimes.

This. On a Tuesday, fine. On a holiday? No. Last year when we were hosting my MIL said she'd bring over what she already bought (said she thought she was hosting, even though we'd already said we'd like to host and not travel for once), so she brought over mashed potatoes in a bag and pre-made stuffing and gravy. It was all gross and even putting it on the table made me sad. I get the good stuff once a year!
Also, I think people who go shopping on Thanksgiving suck. If people shop, it only encourages the stores to open earlier and earlier. Let people just have the day with their families.
In my mind I'm not celebrating thanksgiving till Saturday when we go to my parents. (we move it because there are nurses and EMTs who can't get Thursday off) We are going to DH parents on Thursday, but it just doesn't count to me. They want us to come for lunch, and it's just weird. I don't think she is doing a turkey or big dinner till the next day. Whenever we go over for lunch they always try to take us out for fast food, and I refuse to eat it.

My UO ,is not about thank giving. But something the I hate is when a friend take a picture of my kids then put it on face book, with out asking it is ok to put pictures of my kid on FB, when I never put picture on the internet.
I agree with all these UO regarding thanksgiving. As I sit on my pregnant, exhausted behind. We use real dishes and real silverware to eat a delicious, from scratch thanksgiving dinner at my house. I kind of insist on hosting and I'm kinda (ok very) ocd about making everything. I don't let people help and bring dishes because nobody else likes to make things the right way. Except FIL- he's smoking a ham. Mashed potatoes from a box, frozen pie, precooked Turkey from Kroger are not welcome in my house on thanksgiving (or really any day). It's one day people. It really is worth the effort.
Ps- @Danie007- Have you ever had a brined turkey? It makes a HUGE difference!

My thoughts exactly. I remember the first time I had a brined turkey. I will never go back. So. Much. Better.
@MEjack1 yep, I have had a brined turkey. I think I've had it every single way it can be cooked. I just don't like it.
Do you just not like the taste? Because I can accept that. But if it's because you think turkey's always dry, then you've never had a turkey that's cooked well.

I'm not a huge fan of gravy.
If the turkey and stuffing are coked right you don't need it.

Fast food for thanksgiving?! That's sacrilege
