SAHM - what is your day like?

Just curious what everyone's daily "routine" is. If you can even call it that. What do you try and do on a daily basis? Not so much your routine with LO..but do you try and clean everyday? Cook? Etc. My LO is almost 11 weeks and I seriously feel like I don't do enough around the house so I'm just curious what everyone else manages to do!

My daily goals are workout, shower, leave the house, and complete something productive. Sometimes leaving the house and being productive got together (grocery trip) or leaving & workout go together (walk/run). Other times I do an at home workout, go out for lunch, and do chores around the house. ETA: I'm not a SAHM, just on leave still.

  • It really depends on the day. During the week, I generally manage to do at least 5 loads of laundry, make dinners at least 5 nights a week, go out either to shop or to a baby and me class at least 2/week, go out to see friends or have them over at least 2/week, keep the kitchen clean, keep the house tidy. If i don't have a plan to get out of the house, I will go for a walk. I also leave the heavy cleaning to the weekend when DH can help out. Some days, I'm super mom but other days my little man needs cuddle time on the couch. I play it by ear.

Dd needs to be held for her naps. Generally the best I can do is get myself breakfast or lunch (not usually both) and hopefully do those dishes. I can usually prep dinner too if I can get dd in the ergo. I'm not at all productive yet. Dd is 9 weeks.

Edit to add: dh and I take the laundry to the laundromat together on the weekend. We do a big grocery shopping trip on the weekend too. During the week I might run out to the store a few times but it's been too cold out to go outside just for the heck of it. I shower every day, but that's done before bed when dh is home.

It varies. Every day no matter what I eat breakfast and lunch. Most days I make dinner. Most days I try to shower and get dressed. Most days I try and tidy up the living area. Every other day I do diaper laundry. 2-4 times a week I do other laundry. Once a week I vacuum. Several times a week we go to the store. Sometimes we go on walks. Once a week we go to a mommy/breastfeeding support group. Somedays the tv is on most of the day (even if it's just background noise) somedays I never turn the tv on. Most days I turn Pandora on. I'm taking classes online so I also log on and look at that/do work sometimes. But it's really hard for me to focus on when it's just me and the baby so usually I save that for last minute Sundays.

ETA - this is all in addition to normal mommy stuff of nursing, playing, dressing, comforting, cuddling and taking care of the baby.

  • I try to leave the house everyday. Sometimes that's to walk around the neighborhood, other times I walk to the mall or Publix (both really close to my house). Boo really likes to be outside, so we'll just wander around sometimes. I do laundry, usually cook dinner at least 4 times a week, do errands, see a friend for lunch at least once a week, catch up with family (SIL is also out on mat leave, mom doesn't work normal hours). I go to a mom group at the hospital once a week. I do my best to tidy the house, keep up with H's stuff he needs done, etc. I also do a fair share of snuggling!

  • We are starting to have more of a routine. She wakes up about 6. Bottle, change diaper go down stairs to make myself coffee or breakfast if she lets me. Sweep/put a load of laundry in/ shower any of those things then she usually naps and I watch Wendy Williams. Bottle/diaper change or bath for her and then finish another task or go out for the afternoon to grocery shop. Come home (bottle/diaper) prepare dinner if I know my H will be home. Sometimes he's home at 6 sometimes it's midnight.

That's a pretty loose schedule but you get the idea. Sometimes I do all of it.... Sometimes none of it... But I always watch Wendy.

I just discovered Wendy on maternity leave! I love her! I'll miss her when I go back to work next week :(

My two-year-old comes in our room around 7. Dd1 dd2 and I cuddle a watch a show together. Then I get breakfast for dd1. While she is eating I vacuum/ unload the dishwasher, etc. after that we play for a bit. I try to get dd1 in the tub while dd2 and I shower together. (I can see the tub from the shower in my master bathroom.) then we go to the grocery store most days. I like to make fresh meals. Then we try to play outside if it's warm enough, crafts, etc.

Clean, laundry etc. though it's rare I get to fold and put laundry away, because dd1 loves to "help"
Dd1 is what makes it hard. I kind of wonder what I did with all my time when dd1 was a newborn and it was just her!

Lost Lilah (Audra's twin) at 26 weeks. Cause unknown. Forever in our hearts
  • Wow, everyone gets quite a lot done during the day! I always tell my husband if he comes home and I have done something more than just shower...It's been a good day!! Haha! I normally aim to do at least one thing during the day, either washing or tidy up, walk the baby and dog or start preparing dinner, although I usually start cooking as soon as my husband gets home from work so he can have time with our little girl while I'm cooking.
  • LO is 8 weeks - I usually work out , get out for a walk with her , pick up a little in the living room, run a dishwasher and do a load of laundry . Don't really do any cleaning cause I have cleaners come in once a week and I feel like just picking up stuff in between their visits is enough
  • Some of you really have it together. I feel like I hardly get anything done during the day. However, my feeding routine is pretty time-consuming. Nurse DD for about 30 minutes, give bottle of bm to supplement, pump. That takes about an hour every time. I always eat breakfast and lunch and am starting to make dinner most nights again. Usually wash dishes and maybe do a load of laundry or one other small cleaning task around the house. I need to get it together!

  • I'm not a SAHM, but still have a few weeks left of leave. I have two under two, so some days are difficult. No matter what, I manage to get breakfast and lunch for myself. Workout and shower. Makeup our bed and make dinner. Most days I also pick up DS' toys several times a day. Then I do whatever else I can. We have two dogs and one is 12 weeks old, so they're a handful as well. I do grocery shopping on Saturdays with DH. I get some laundry done, lots of freezer meal prep, even some baking sometimes. I just have to do it strategically!

  • I have a 3 yo, 20 mo, and almost 3 mo.

My daily to-do list includes showering, getting kids dressed/ready for the day, making and cleaning up meals, at least 1 load of laundry, one other "big" chore (deep clean the bathrooms, mop the floors, grocery shopping, etc...).

I don't leave the house everyday, although I definitely prefer to. J. and A. have better behavior when we do.

  • Depends on the day. I make DS breakfast and take him to school and then if I have errands to run I get them done while we are already out. Plus she tends to be sleepier in the mornings so it's easier to get in and out of stores without her fussing. The rest of the day depends on how well she naps. There are literally days where we don't get out of bed or off the couch until it's time to go pick up DS from school because she won't stop nursing or she has to take her naps on me. Then there are days where she takes a 3-4 hour nap!

As far as housework goes, I do a load of laundry, empty/load the dishwasher, wipe counters and straighten the living areas every day. I vacuum usually around 2 times per week and do the bathrooms 1x per week. The day varies depending on when she takes her long naps. I usually put her in the moby wrap or the ergo to do my housework. She's also content to sit in her RnP and just watch me while I clean the kitchen.

  • I'm still physically recovering but I try to do atleast one chore a day whether its laundry, dishes, picking up the house, etc. I also try to get out of the house at least 3-4 times a week to keep from getting stir crazy. Some days are better than others but I'm hoping to be able to do more once I'm cleared by my doctor.

  • We have a very loose routine but right now we get up by 9:30 (I sometimes try and get up earlier to get more done if I'm alert enough. Then go to the gym with another mommy friend in the parent room there or I go to a storytime for lap sat infants. Then maybe run one other errand with him while I'm out. Then get home and feed him and baby wear him while I try and get 1-2 chores done and make dinner. DH works 12 hour days so when he gets home he watches DS while I shower so I can relax for a few minutes. I usually try and pump 1-2 times per day but it's not really consistent. Usually before I work out and/or after we put DS to bed

  • The older two get up around 7-8. Dd3 usually sleeps till 8-9. The big girls eat breakfast. If I have to nurse dd3 i might put a TV show on for them (don't judge, we only do shows they can learn from!)

2-3 days a week we'll go hang out with my mom at her house. My mom is my best friend, and she can't work, so we go over, she plays with the girls and I help her do things around her house, or we just visit and have coffee.

Afternoon naps/quiet time for all of them from noon - 3ish. (Not the whole time usually, it's just attempted during that time. Some indoor activity, coloring, 'writing a book', indoor hopscotch (tape on the floor), baking cookies etc.

the way things are set up, I can't do laundry or run the dishwasher and still be able to hear dd3 cry, so those usually are saved till the evening when dh is home and weekends.

Dh gets home between 3-4, so one of us makes supper if I don't have it already started. Eat supper, baths/showers for the big girls. Bedtime at 7-8 for the big girls. 9-10 for the rest of us. I shower or take a bath after the big girls are in bed.

  • When my boyfriend works all day (which is usually the case other than 2 days of the week) than I'm up with my DD at around 10am and we lounge pretty much all day do some tummy time and nap in the afternoon. In the evening I try to let her entertain herself while I load the dishwasher / unload. I usually throw a load of her laundry and clean her room 2-3 nights of the week.

I find night time is when I get my counters clean and pick up whatever it is I have to. My boyfriend will usually be home by 9 and that's when I eat supper than start our bedtime routine.

The odd time our "shchedule" if you can call it that gets a little out of place if I have company or go out for lunch with a friend. For the most part I don't do any excessive cleaning it organizing yet and I use the "she's been cranky all day long I couldn't get anything done" card every now and again when I just feel like relaxing with my DD lol :)
  • I'm not a SAHM, but LO is 3mos and I'm out on maternity leave until January.

LO gets up for the day between 7 and 8:30ish. I feed her, we chat a little bit, then she takes a nap in her swing. I make breakfast/coffee and pump while eating. I pick up around the house and get dressed until she wakes up. I put her clothes on before her next feed, and then usually we head out to run errands and she sleeps in the car seat. Afternoons are spent feeding and snuggling, and we go for a walk if it's not raining. Dinner is usually something I have previously frozen. When H gets home, we eat, she has tummy time and plays in her play gym, short naps, I shower. To bed around 10:30.

  • It totally depends on the day. For example, today LO didn't take one nap so not as much got done (dinner was Chinese takeout) . Other days, he takes 2-3 naps and I can be super productive. I always try to leave the house, whether to walk or run errands. We are in walking distance of lots of shopping, so that is convenient.

Also, our morning cuddles are a must! Every morning, MH wakes up and brings LO into bed so we can all cuddle (including our kitty!). It is a nice family bonding time. I love it!
