Pacifier advice

How do I get rid of it? I had intention to moths ago,but thinks happen. For he most par, he uses it only to fall asleep. He seems to drop it immediately once he falls asleep. Also, I have noticed him on occasion lately starting to suck his thumb. If I do, I distract and redirect. Would taking away the pacifier possibly make it worse?

Re: Pacifier advice

  • My doc said not to worry about getting rid of it yet since my DS only uses it for sleep too or in the car. I don't think it's necessary to stop at 9 months.

  • I delayed taking it away with dd for several reasons so she was 2.5 when we ultimately made the break. One day i had her help me round them all up and we gave them to "new babies" who needed them more. She was rediculously attached to them so we needed a reason that made sense to her. By telling her that new babies needed pacis she was willing to give them up.

Of course I tossed them and didn't actually share them. :)

  • I haven't got rid of mine yet either. I would rather her keep her paci because otherwise she sticks her hand, fingers and/or thumb in her mouth until she gags. Sometimes she spits up from that. I chose the lesser of the two evils. She knows how to put it in and take it out herself when she wants it. She does the same thing when she's asleep. It just hangs there most of the night.

  • i have no desire to take away DS's paci any time soon. To me, 9 mos is still such a baby...i dont think there is anything wrong with it. My nephew just ditched his at 2.5 and hes fine...

Ugh with the gagging!! DD does that too. And she really chomps on her hands because of teething, to the point that they are starting to get red and chapped and sometimes even have tooth marks! I always swore pacifiers would be for sleep and car only, but lately I find myself encouraging her to take the pacifier more often so she stops chewing on/gagging herself. Lesser of two evils I guess.
