MOTN Check-In and GTKY

Julian is actually asleep, and I'm making myself dinner.  2 AM is dinner time, right?  Entertain me whilst I dine!

GTKY question: What's your LO's favorite unintentional lullaby?

For example, in my sleep-deprived state earlier this evening, I started singing the Jigglypuff song from Pokemon to my screaming baby.  He calmed down almost immediately.  I tried it again later, and it put him to sleep!

  • 2:30 and third feeding.

I tried "I see the light" from Rapunzel until it stopped working, then into "be our guest" and "part of your world" until those didn't work and now working on nursery rhymes.
  • Loading the player...
  • 2:30.. First feeding.. Wahoo ! Re intro the swaddle was everything...second great night in a row.

I sing a "Mommy loves you" song my mom sung to me.

  • After midnight and dealing with Mr Grumpy Pants who hasn't slept since about 6pm and is now over tired. So we could call this our first feeding, but really he's been nursing off and on for hours.

I inadvertently unplugged my headphones the other night will listening to Eminem's Berzerk and he chilled right out.

This is like the story of my life for the past three days.  It took a combination of Jigglypuff, boob pacifier, and swaddling to get my Grumpmeister to finally sleep after being awake for six hours.

  • 2nd feeding here, although 1/2 of it dribbled out of the side of his mouth so I'm super happy.

I usually sing Eternal Flame by the Bangles, but his favorite lullaby is the sweet sound of white noise & heavy rainfall on my phone's white noise app. Or the vent hood. The louder & more obnoxious, the better.

First feeding. Somehow. She had bad gas and screamed for 30 minutes during bedtime. Her last feeding was at 8:30. She woke at midnight, but I put her in bed with me and we didn't wake up until 2:30. She seems to sleep better next to me, but dh isn't a fan of her being in the bed with us. Fuck him.

I make up songs. We rap everyday even though I'm not a huge fan of rap. I'm not sure what tune I sing it to, but I always sing-- Callie Callie, why you fussin'? Why you fussin'? So far, it calms her down every time.

Eta: I am not a great singer, so I just tell her I'm glad she has no one to compare me to. Of course her dad sings and tells her he's a better singer than me. He's right.

  • 1 am first feeding. I sing him the Beatles and lots of made up stuff
  • Night time feeding #2 gonna be a long night!

I sing anything that pops in my head and it's usually not a baby somg, but in my exhaustion I can't think of anything:(

  • Yesterday by The Beatles. My mom sang it to me when I was a baby. Also, Hey Fighting Tigers (LSU fan here). I sang it to him since day 1 and he loves it. I always do patty cake with his feet when I sing it. And there was that one time when Highway to Hell and Crazy Train were appropriately sung.

I am ashamed to say that LO's eyes glaze over anytime Selena Gomez or Miley Cyrus comes on the radio :(
  • 10:30pm awake time... 3 hra later and she's still going strong. Eating every hour. FUN.

Unintentional lullaby... "lucky strike" by maroon5, "royals" lorde, and "hey jude" - the beatles. When we wake up for the day its "dear prudence."

  • Feeding #2 @ 4:30 here.

He loves music, we listen to Pandora all the time... Heavenly Children's Lullaby (for bedtime/naptime only), Michael Buble and Disney are his favorite stations. Yesterday on our never-ending road trip we listened to Christmas music on the way home and I was singing that to him and he loved it... Other times I just sing whatever comes to mind. Usually nursery rhyme songs.

  • Up almost an hour with feeding number two. Can't complain too much since she went to bed at 730, up at 1130, and slept 1230-4.

I haven't tried any weird songs with her yet, but DS used to calm right down and fall asleep when I put on Nickelback as loud as I could.

  • Just finished our first feeding since 10pm. I'm feeling quite awake after all that sleep but I'm hoping to catch some more z's before we get up for the day.

My baby girl has her mom's taste in music. Fat Bottom Girls by Queen calms her down every time. It cracks me up that she just goes silent the moment I hit the chorus.

  • Up for first feeding at 3:30...down at 10.

Her daddy loves to sing to her and his favorite is "Rock Your Body" by Justin when he's rocking her, except he changes the words to make them baby-centric and less pervy to be singing to a child. Cracks me up!

I don't sing to her much yet, mostly I tell her stories and talk to her. When she transitions to her own room (as soon as oxygen equipment is out bc it makes it about a thousand degrees in there) I'll put in a CD player so we can play her music at bedtime.
  • Second feed here. For some reason he loves champions by Queen. Yellow bird because my dad used to sing that to me when I was young. @edaire yesterday or hey Jude by Beatles works for me too.

I don't truly know all the words to lullabies and would much rather have him listen to real music but I will make up my own songs and use lullaby structure as well.

  • @nryan55 clearly you need to write the parady Baby's Got Fat.
  • 430 here and first feeding since 11 pm. I am so happy. Longest stretch yet.

Cruise by Flirida Georgia Line seems to hold her attention right now.

I have no lullaby that is odd. She likes ocean waves.

  • second feeding, it's 520 here. And holy crap it's sleeting outside. Im in TX so that's a big deal haha!!

I play George Strait all the time, he seems to like it. When he's getting his diaper changed in his nursery, we play lullabies (ususlly rock a bye baby) and he immediately stops fussing.

  • Jo has decided to pull an all nighter it seems. She will fall asleep, we put her down. We get anywhere from 5 minutes romantic hour. I think this is her payback since I left the house yesterday to run some errands. She had a major meltdown for daddy.

I have no idea when he was fed last but 6:30 is a win for me!

We do lullabys and when he bores I go to Christmas songs.

  • Second feeding - she's getting to be a pro at her motn feeding - it's so fast I don't have time to bump. Though I miss out - I am thankful for the sleep.

As for lullabies - Build me up (buttercup) and what ever song I make up usually complaining that she should be sleeping but she us not. She's not a huge fan nothing that causes instant sleep, it could be because I'm truly an awful singer. Oh well I try.

  • DH did overnight duty so I could sleep. DS1 woke up at 5 but went back to sleep after a few snuggles.

GTKY - I usually sing 'Disarm' by Smashinf Pumpkins or 'She Talks to Angels' by the Black Crowes.

That song is the best! It makes me think of my lil brother who used to call me 'Jigglybutt' and run around the house humming that tune lol I love him!

  • Jules loves "La Vie en Rose".  We have a "Rhapsody in Blue" station set up on Pandora.  I think I've got a jazz buff on my hands.

See above.  Pandora is a lifesaver in our house.  He enjoys our Daft Punk station, as well.

    That's deft getting used.  Thanks!
