Wondering how long you ladies have pushed for. A girl I work with the other day was saying she pushed for 6 hours because her sons head was that big. Just trying to get some idea.
This answer will be all over the place. It varies even between pregnancies with the same person. I don't know that there is an average. The most efficient answer will be, as long as it takes for baby to come out.
Edit: 1st pushed for 5 min because I had to stop otherwise she would've come out in 2 pushes. 2nd pushed 2 times and she was out, less than 5 min. Decided to answer so I wasn't being a total shit today.
So many variables in this but it i pushed for two hours with ds1 and about 15min w ds2. But my contractions never get closer than 5-8 minutes apart so 15 minutes was like 3 pushes total.
Thanks for rubbing it in Cash! I know there's no real answer to how long it will take. Just trying to mentally prep myself in case it gets long. Always nice to compare it to someone who had to go longer for me.
With DD I pushed for about an hour, which isn't too bad for a first baby. Almost all my STM friends said they pushed like twice or for 5 minutes with their second, including my friend who pushed for nearly 3 hours with her first. Hoping it's the same case for me!
I went from 7 cm to 10 cm in less than 5 min and my LO got all beat up from "rapid descent" so I'm sure my case is far different than most folks. Because of the above my OB was still at home since it was a Sunday so I had to breathe through 20 min of unmedicated contractions and LO being at the perineum the whole time, per the nurse. OB pretty much ran out the door and I pushed a couple of times and he was out. If I'd been allowed to deliver when I was begging to push it would've been a few minutes at most. With DS1, I pushed for about 45 min and DS2 about 20 min.

Does it make it better that I had contractions on top of each other for 2 hours before they gave me my Epi? Or that I have a 3rd degree tear? Also, I threatened to murder the anesthesiologist for taking so long to get here but felt bad because he was treating a woman with a knife wound to her neck.

I haven't this LO yet, but with DD I pushed 3 times and that was it. Labor lasted 7.5 hours, so I consider myself lucky. I just know I won't be so lucky this time and it makes me nervous
It took two pushes, so definitely less than 5 minutes!

Dear God I wish to be on the lower end of the spectrum... I know our bodies are made for this, but 3 or 4 hours of pushing makes it hurt just thinking about it... I wish you ladies much faster delivery this time around!
20 min with my first, 40 with my second. I wasn't a full 10 when they had me start pushing with her though - I was starting to get a fever and they wanted to avoid NICU for the baby.
2.5 hours with my first because of his huge head. He also managed to snap my tailbone on the way out. That was probably the worst part because it took almost 8 months to heal.
With DD I pushed for 3 hours before the OB got the vacuum, and assisted me. It was because I had been in labor for so long. My uterus just wasn't contracting anymore. They gave me pitocin t try to get it going again, but it wasn't happening. Thankfully the vacuum worked! This time around I am hoping it goes faster.
40 minutes with DS1. I could have probably gotten him out quicker but I was not breathing and pushing along with the contractions for about 15 minutes.

Wow, I had no idea that was possible. I'm going to try to forget you said that;)

Whaaaaaaat?!
I've never heard of anything like this! Are you trying for another vaginal birth or a scheduled c-section this time? I would imagine that last experience was pretty traumatizing.
With ds1 I pushed 4 times. It was a total of about 5 minutes from the time I told my husband to get the nurse because I was feeling off and a lot of pressure to the time he was in my arms. When the nurse checked his head was practically out lol... We will see what happens this time! I don't think it could ever be that easy again!!
I'm a FTM & really really hoping that I won't have to push for crazy long. Now that said, our Bradley teacher told us that if you push super hard/fast, you're more likely to tear, so to not be afraid of taking it a little slower. I found that really helpful to think about, so just thought I'd pass that along.

Twenty minutes with baby #1.
Almost an hour with #2.
They let my sister push for almost 3 hours before resorting to a C-section.
