It's another Orphan's Thanksgiving with some Army friends of ours and my step-mom (my Dad passed in August). We're doing Anne Burrell's brined turkey from foodnetwork.com. We made it last year and it was to die for.
Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope that you all can still have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Yes, unfortunately the in-laws invited themselves. I am not cooking though, but they are still coming to eat at the house, which means I have to have it clean and we have to serve food. Gag. I am stuck with this every year because DH was born on Thanksgiving, and since it is always near his B-day, they always want to spend it with him. I will likely never be able to have Thanksgiving with my family again. Can you tell that I am not in a good mood?

eww you should be able to alternate with your family, birthday or not! or can you do something combined with your family? i would hate that!
We are heading to my parent's, 4 hours away for 5 days. I am so excited. I love going to my parents. There are tons of people who want to hold my baby and let me relax. (well, mostly my mom) I am also going to get to hang out with old friends who want to meet my baby. My sister will be there too, she lives 9 hours away from me. And she will get to meet LO. I am SOOOOOO excited to pick her up at the airport on Sunday!
MIL, SIL and BIL will be in town. It's their first time to meet the baby. I had been dreading it bc the last time they were down I cooked the whole meal by myself, but it sounds like MIL is planning on taking charge of the cooking. Also, she's being really sensitive about the whole milk protein intolerance issue. I wasn't sure what to expect bc SIL and BIL are such picky eaters. So overall I am hoping things will be okay. There hasn't been any drama in DH's family in a while. Idk if that is good or if that means we're due... Haha!
Yep. It will be small this year though. Only 8 or 9 people. Dh is smoking the turkey. I'll be making: baked Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, scratch green bean casserole (first time NOT doing Campbell's), fruit salad, scratch cranberry sauce. My grandma will make the stuffing and sweet potato casserole.
For dessert, I'm making a scratch apple pie, banana pudding pie, and if I'm feeling ambitious, fresh pumpkin pie.
Not this year! We are going to my dad's house at 11 and then to my grandpa's house at 3. Then the following Sunday is my husband's families Thanksgiving.
Yep. In a house that we are moving into the day before. I won't even know how to turn the bloody oven on let alone cook an entire thanksgiving feast for my in laws (who have flown in from England for the occasion, so no pressure. No pressure at all)
Omg! It'll be fine...just pour them a glass of wine...or 5!
Nope. We will head to my family's an hour away around 2 and then drive 2 hours to go to my husbands mom's family's after that. Thankfully his dad is having us over on Sunday so we don't have to go to 3 places like we do every year.
Lol It's my second fave holiday too, Halloween taking first! Christmas is super stressful to me, but it is getting more and more fun each year, since DS1 will be 5 and with new baby being here!
This is the first year we will be hosting Thanksgiving rather than visiting family out of state. It will be me, DH, DS, MIL and FIL on Thanksgiving day. SIL and my side of the family might come out that weekend, but they won't be here for actual Thanksgiving day. MIL loves to hold and feed the baby, so DH and I will have plenty of time to cook. We are making crock pot turkey to free up the stove for sides.
I love hosting the holidays and cooking, mostly because this ensures I get all my favorite dishes I grew up with! MIL, FIL, and BIL are driving down and I couldn't be more excited! Between the 3 if them, both kids will be well entertained and I foresee no problem with me cooking and having some 'me time.'
Absolutely not. Im not one to host things. That actually works out well because my mom loves to host. It will be a cold day in hell before she gives up a major holiday. Dh has to work, so I'm still deciding if I'll go to my parents or skip it so I can stay home and try to make dinner for dh and I.
We are hosting. It was kind of a battle to get it. My in laws are not coming because sil refuses to alternate years and mil and FIL do everything she says. DH is pretty pissed. My parents and 2 brothers are coming and so us my friend with no family nearby.
no, but I'm making 4 or so dishes to take to my parents. they host every year but my mom had surgery recently so all that she's making is the Turkey and ham this year. my sis and I will bring all of the sides. since LO is now in the picture, my ILs decided they want to have a thanksgiving too so we will go there after. they dont make the traditional dishes though so I'm going to p ig out at my parents. it's my favorite meal of the year!!
We are hosting because DHs OOT fam will be in town and it's the best way for us to spend time equally with both families. We are doing turkeys (traditional and deep fried) and dressing/stuffing/gravy and then between the other 20 people everyone is bringing something. I am excited. I cooked a Thanksgiving meal for just DH and I to eat that week even though we weren't hosting and it was fun. Possibly my favorite holiday then I made a cream of turkey soup with leftovers and holy delicious!!!
I live in germany and my mom is flying in to meet tilly, so im hosting. Just easier than trying to find someone else and then deal with a toddler, a baby, and a mom that speaks no German.
That and really it isn't that much work when kept simple.
It is being held at my house, but I won't be doing anything. My family thought it would be easier to bring it to our house than for us to have to go to theirs. The weather is supposed to be nasty here on Thanksgiving.
My in laws are coming into town. I was just going to order a predone meal from Wegmans, but DH gave me a horrified look so I guess I will be cooking. I informed him however that this means he will be completely responsible for DS when I'm not nursing him.
We are hosting - 19 people! Both sides of the family. I'd rather do that instead of trekking cross country with two kids, which is what we were supposed to do this year. We alternate holidays with our families who live across the country from each other
My mom is hosting at a house that she's caretaker for. I will still end up cooking most of the meal (her husband is frying the turkey). I'm not looking forward to that, and I'm going to try to prep as much as possible in advance.

I think I'll cancel my Thanksgiving dinner and go to your house! It all sounds yummy!!

I am mostly looking forward to napping while we're there, and letting the grandparents watch the baby!
