How long did it take to get pregnant?

Re: How long did it take to get pregnant?

  • I have 28-35 day cycles. I started charting with FF about 6 months before we started TTC, but it got to be too much for me, personally. So, as another option just wanted to throw out there I am a huge fan of the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. You pee on OPKs and it tracks your cycle and tells you when it's time to do it. My cycles vary a little bit, so sometimes I only got alerted of my two peak days, but I got pregnant after three months using it. Of course, doing the deed every other day for a month covers all your bases too, but I ain't got time for that :).

  • I went off the pill the beginning of July. Perggo November. Normal cycles all but one month. They have apps to track cycles etc. they are free. My doc suggested opk as well for irregular cycles. Good luck!

I typically have 35 day cycles and even some random super long 60-70 day ones and we got pregnant with DD the first cycle we tried and on the second cycle this time.

ETA: We used OPKs which were a big help, especially on those random long cycles.  I would have driven myself crazy if I thought my period should have started but kept getting negative pregnancy tests.

  • I gave a VERY irregular cycle (anywhere from 20 to 93 days usually one on the shorter end then one or 2 on the longer end) and we were actively trying to prevent conceiving even though at this point I didn't think I could have kids. One night a condom broke and I didn't think anything of it. My dh and I both came down with the flu and I just assumed I was taking longer to get over it until my dh came home from work with a test (over 2 and a half months later) telling me how there's no way I still have the flu and I must be pg. And before I could even look at it there was a bfp.

I guess it just depends on timing, and luck :)

  • I went off the pill on July 31st and had my last monthly period on August 28th. I have a 23 day cycle, I was expecting it to take a little longer to work birth control out of my system but I guess not!
  • I got married on October 15th, 2013. That is when we stopped using condoms. I am now 7 weeks pregnant.
  • My cycle while on the pill was clockwork, literally, to the time of day.  Since stopping my pill in June, my cycle has been a little less regular, about every 29-30 days.  I was just using a period tracking app on my smartphone, and it charts when your fertile period is for you.  It took us 3 months to get pregnant.
  • My cycles over the past 3.5 years have ranged from 24-42 days. I'm obese and hypothyroid but have no other health issues. I got pregnant the second month TTC both times. The first month I charted signs only, and the second month I charted signs, OPKs, and temps.

  • It took months the first try (ended in miscarriage) 3 months after the miscarriage I got pregnant again. I took the advice to take notice of my discharge (gross and tmi I know). But the day I noticed it white is the day we ha sex and boom I got pregnant. May not work the same for everybody but at least it's one way to approach it. My next step was going to be an ovulation test which will tell you your peak days.
If you're unsure of ovulation, you would buy the 30 day kit and follow the instructions to the T!
But relax, sometimes it happens when you let it go and relax. You're body will know what to do

I was on a fairly regular 30 day cycle (though I do have moderate-ish endo) and it took 2 years and 8 months for me to conceive. I was 22 when I started TTC and in very good health overall (as was my fiance), so I'd gone in expecting I'd get pregnant pretty quickly. Obviously I was a bit naive, but hey, even though it took some time to get my BFP I still got it.

Everyone is different and for some women it'll only take one cycle to conceive while for others it can take longer. I'd say that if you've had no luck after a year of TTC (it's normal for healthy couples to take a year to conceive), consider seeing a fertility specialist.

    Good luck and baby dust!
  • Before BC my cycles were crazy, sometimes AF would last 2 weeks be gone for a week then back for a week. I could never track a consistent pattern. I was on the pill when I got pregnant with DS (was changing to a lower dose and didnt use a back up, according to the Dr this is what happened). This time around I had a 23 day cycle Oed CD10, then the next Oed on day 19 got a BFP 9DPO.

I highly recommend temping and using OPKs and getting a fertility friend account. It helped a lot. Also the TTGP board is amazing so I would lurke over there and participate in their waiting to O and the TWW threads. Good luck!

  • I used the ClearBlue Fertility monitor. The first month using it, it told me my peek fertility days and I got pregnant the first month using it. Unfortunately, that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. My doctor recommended we wait  one cycle before trying again, which we did. Once I had one full cycle, I used the fertility monitor again and voila! I conceived the first month using it once again! I would highly recommend trying it, or some other sort of fertility monitor! Good Luck!

  • I charted and became quite obsessive during my first 2 cycles.  By the 3rd cycle I decided to drop charting and just HIO with no worries of obligations.  And BOOM I got a + HPT.  A lot of people told me the instand you stop 'trying' is when you'll get KU.  I didn't believe them, but hell, it worked for me!  So to answer your question, 2 cycles of trying, 1 cycle of not trying not preventing, so a total of 3 cycles for me to get my first + HPT

  • It took us over a year to get pregnant. We got married in July 2012 and started right after the wedding. But while trying I found out that my cycle was roughly 41 days in between (before I knew that I thought there was something seriously wrong with me!). DH actually downloaded an app for me that tracked my periods and once we got things figured out we started trying. I am now 10 weeks pregnant!

Try the app! And good luck to you both!!
  • We started trying October 2012 for a second baby, got pregnant and has 2 losses, and this is my third pregnancy in 2013.  With my daughter it took 7 months

  • We only really "tried" with our first and it took a solid year.  I didn't chart for the first few months though.  With the second he was our one shot wonder lol.  This LO was about the same.  We could only think of twice that it could have happened because I was really sick after my wisdom teeth extraction.  We blame 3 weeks of antibiotic treatments on this pregnancy lol.  It's crazy though, with DD we were like, jeez they pounded in our heads all through school that it only takes one time to get pregnant.  DH said we should call our health teachers and tell them they were wrong

  • We concieved on the first month of trying. Although i wasnt expecting it to happen so quickly. I had read it could take up to a year.

I know my cycle like the back of my hand. I paid attention my CM and pretty much had it pinpointed when i ovulate. Knowing your body can be a helpful tool in trying to conceive.

    Good luck!

  • It took just over 2 years for me. I'm now 41. Partner is 37 with two older kids. This is my first time pregnant (that I know of.) I was fine with it never happening if it didn't happen in the next few months.
  • Four years plus.  It has been a very long road.
  • With my first 2, I got pregnant the first cycle of trying but I did BBT, BD every 36 hours for 2 weeks, and knew I was on a 34-38 day cycle.  I was very overweight with both (260-270 when I got pregnant and then ballooned to 311 at delivery.  With this pregnancy, I am much more healthy and active starting weight at 155 and it took 2 cycles (27 day cycle).  But, we only BD once because of my travel schedule and that did the trick.  I was expecting it to take at least a year since I am now 38 but we got lucky once again.

  • I have a 30-40 day cycle and it took us 5 months... I say only the last 3 months count though because we realized after the first couple months we weren't having sex on the right days to get pregnant. My friend had a 40-50 day cycle and she got pregnant on her first month of trying. It doesn't matter how long your cycle is, just that you have sex regularly. Last month we had sex every other day and got pregnant. Good luck!
  • It happened straight away for us. We were expecting to be waiting months, if not years to get pregnant, but we had unprotected sex 3 times and found out I was pregnant 3 weeks later.

  • Hey there! I have completely irregular cycles and always have. In fact, I have PCOS and hadn't gotten my period since April 2013 and found out in September 2013, we were expecting our second!! When I went for my first appt, I was 8 weeks confirmed by sono! The math shows August 20 was the date of conception. We are happily expecting our 2nd baby and tomorrow we find out the gender. Can't wait!!
  • I went off the pill end of June 2013 , my last period was August 23 2013 .. and I must have conceived around 6th September, sooooo about a little over two months...
  • Took us 2 months (I have a 26-day cycle). We kind of thought it would take at least 4-5 months, so were very surprised!

    Enjoy the trying, obviously! :)

  • I've always had super irregular periods, sometimes going months in between cycles.  I'm a physician assistant myself and discussed this in detail with my OB, whom I know through work.  My husband and I tried for about 2 months, but it was endlessly frustrating when (as usual), I just wasn't getting my period.  It was impossible to have any idea when I was ovulating, and I just do not have the patience to do ovulation tests every day (that, and my OB recommended NOT doing them, as it just increases your anxiety in trying to conceive).  When it had been almost 2 months without my period, I called my OB back and we tried a cycle of Clomid once I FINALLY got my period.  I went back for an US a week later and saw that I had at least one good follicle for ovulation.  He told us to try every other day and take a test in 3 weeks.  We were lucky enough to get that positive test on the first try and I'm now 7 weeks pregnant.  If you truly have concerns regarding your cycle length, I would recommend simply talking to your OB about it.  Try not to let it get in your head...stress and anxiety can make the process even more difficult.  Good luck :)
  • I have had irregular periods ever since I had a tumorous ovary removed. My periods ranged anywhere from 20- 50 days. It took 6 months for us to conceive. The first doctor I went to said I needed a hysterectomy because she thought it was coming from the uterus. I was devastated, but she recommended a specialist who knew what she was doing, and found out the 15 pound tumor was coming from an ovary, so I'm very blessed that the first doctor was wrong!

Good luck and let us know when it happens :)
  • The first time (miscarriage), I went off the pill and we used no protection the first month, which didn't result in me pregnant, but the second month I got pregnant.

After MC, we got pregnant the first cycle after AF arrived.

  • I had pretty regular cycles, but also had VARIOUS types of spotting, during any/every part of cycle. And skipped a couple cycles the last few years. Never found a reason.but we got preggo our 2nd month trying. Other people are as regular as an atomic clock, can find zero problems, and can't conceive without medical help. It really is a crap shoot. Good luck.
