How long would this "stash" last?

After doing research on what Nesties have liked for newborns, I think this is what I'm planning on getting for my newborn stash. How long will it last till I need to build up another stash of diapers?

From what I've read, I'm thinking around 3-5 months. Then I'll get another set including mostly one size that'll last till maybe 18 months. Then one last "set" until potty trained. Does that seem right?

DH's biggest thing is how much we'll save overall, so I'm trying to give him a realistic picture......he's a finance dork!

  • And here is the items I'm planning on buying:

    36 GMD prefolds - $42 for orange and $25 for 12 yellow = $67

    4 fitteds - $15 x 4 - $60

    8 covers (4 thirsties, 2 proraps, and 2 Imse Vimse) - $9 x 4, $5 x 2, $25 x 2 = $100

    4 snappi's - $2.50 x 4 = $10

    2  pail liner - $16 x 2 = $32

    2 wetbags - $30 for 2 WAHMies wetbages

    50  reusable wipes ? Seconds from www.greenmountaindiapers.com - $4.95 x 5 = $24.95

  • From my reading, I don't think that would get you 3-5mo unless you had a tiny baby.  I think you should get another dozen yellow edge GMDs or more fitteds... Here's my plan:

    36 total diapers for nb

24-30 total diapers for infant (should last 6-9mo)

    2 snappi's

    6 covers for each stage

    pillow cases for pail liner

    2 wetbags

40 cloth wipes (I've made 20 so far myself)

I figure I'll assess later on the bigger sizes.

  • Your stash looks very similar to what we are planning. How often do you plan on doing laundry? I would say that you could get by with 24 orange edge and a dozen yellow. (to save some money) I don't think that you'll ever need that many wipes! I would cut that in half. You could also just use a pillow case while your pail liner is in the wash. That way you only need to buy one of those.

On GMD's website they have a picture of a 9 month old baby in a small thirstie cover, so that size could potentially last a long time.

Keep in mind, I've never done this before. ;) One more thing, check out www.moderndiapers.com  It is owned by our very own nestie LClaire. She is fabulous to work with, I just ordered from her last week! (.5% off for nesties and free shipping over $25)
