Storing Baby Items

As DD gets bigger, we've started to retire some of her bulkier items like her bouncer, bumbo, infant seat, and even clothes into giant space bags.  We would like to save this stuff for if/when we have another child.  How can I store this stuff so it's not taking up space in the house?  I'm hesitant to put it in the garage because I feel like it will get filthy.

Re: Storing Baby Items

  • I was really crazy about keeping all of the boxes so that I would feel comfortable storing them in the basement or garage. I'm not sure how I would store them without the boxes though, sorry! Not much help.

  • I've been meaning to ask this!

At my house I would choose attic over basement. But I don't want to ruin the items by putting them into attic that can be super hot or cold.

I would love to know what others are doing.

  • I put clothes in rubbermaid bins and broke down lots of the items and put in garbage bags and are in the basement a few smaller items I just put at the bottom of his closet.
  • Cover big items in trash bags and smaller items in storage bins. It will be fine anywhere- that hard plastic is meant to endure. Just give it a good washing off before using it again.

  • I cleaned out her closet and drawers of newborn, 0 and 3 months sizes.  The clothes are still in piles in her room.  Oops.

I think the sun is the only thing that will affect plastic like the swing, etc.  I agree with Allie:  plastic bins for clothes/small stuff and plastic bags for the big stuff.

I'd put a Movember mustache fail, but then
you'd all have to look at it until February.
  • We have really thick trash bags, space bags and a giant Rubbermaid bin. Hopefully it'll be enough to keep the gross stuff out...
  • We stored all of DD1's stuff in our unfinished basement and not in boxes. When it came time to pull everything out, I machine washed everything fabric and washed all hard surfaces with hot, soapy water. Turned out fine :)
