  • 55% of your income based on your highest earning quarter from the year before in California.
  • I hope to take the full 12 weeks, but that may end up getting cut down to 8-10. I'll have about 3 weeks of vacation and no clue how much sick ( I keep using it up for all the doc appts!). My goal is to have at least 14 days paid, and then use my STD at 60% once my once I use up my PTO.

My other thought is that I work in Higher Ed and summers are slow. I'd like to go back after we start our new fiscal year July 1, but before August 1 so my total will also depend on when this baby actually makes his/her appearance.

We have been saving for this and H is currently working  overseas in the UAE and we are saving as much as we can from that. Also,  being so sick has definitely helped curtail my spending even more ( silver lining?)

We went through something similar 2 years ago when I had surgery and we made it fine for 6 weeks and I had no leave, so I'm thinking we'll be okay this time around as well.

  • Just found out today that I can get 6 weeks short-term disability at 60% pay. Before I go into disability, I need to use my sick, vacation and personal time. So if that all adds up to say, 2 weeks total, then I'm only allowed to use 4 weeks short-term since the other 2 were my other time. After that, it goes into FMLA unpaid, which I wish was an option but don't think it will be.

  • I'm active duty military so I will get 6 weeks fully paid leave after the baby is born. I will get no prenatal leave unless I am considered high risk.

  • Assuming company policy hasn't changed since the last time I went on maternity leave 2 years ago, I will get 6 weeks at full pay with STD + my company makes up the difference.  Then I get 6 weeks at half pay through CA's paid family leave (but bc I won't be commuting + they don't take out all the deductions I normally have from my regular check, it comes out to much closer to full pay).  I'm also planning on taking a couple extra weeks that will be paid for from accrued vacation time.  Total time out will probably be 3.5 months.

  • I am really trying to save now so I don't have to stress later.  It is hard because this is our first baby, but I am trying to be minimalist about our baby purchases.  I want to take a year off.  To do this, I need to save up some mortgage payments AND $900 a month of insurance while I'm not working.  To be honest, with Christmas coming up November has been a fail, but I have faith that things will work out.  The path that is right for you will reveal itself!  So no babymoons for me. :)  I think I would like to postpone that one until I can wear a swimsuit again, preferably in the Caribbean with a pina colada!
  • We can use our sick pay (we accrue 2 weeks per year up to 320 hours and then it just disappears), our vacation (currently getting three weeks per year that expires on hire anniversary date), and short-term disability.

I have not been able to sign up for short-term disability due to timing issues.

I should have 5.5 weeks of sick pay accrued, 3 weeks of vacation, and I'm trying to get my manager to approve another 2 weeks from this year's vacation to be used a couple of weeks after my hire date anniversary.  I'll save back 1.5 weeks of sick pay for the rest of the year (just in case) and just use the 8 weeks as leave.

As I'm the only income in our family, I will not be able to take off any additional time that is not paid.

  • I get 8 weeks paid at 70%. I am taking 12 weeks so for those additional 4 weeks I will have to start saving now so I can have some money during that time.
  • I plan on asking for 12 weeks with 6 of those being paid by disability leave. I think that's doable, but I wish I could take more.
