Babies: 6 - 9 Months

wake up before 5 am

DS has always been an early riser but before daylight savings I had stretched his sleep out to almost 6 am. Since daylight savings he has been waking up by 5 am every day, usually by 4:45. Today it was 4:15. He's not hungry because I feed him. I leave all the lights off, feed him side lying in bed and try holding him, but he starts screaming until I let him get up to play. I have tried rocking, bouncing, swaddling, nothing works. I know he is tired, after an hour of being up he is ready to sleep again. I am considering CIO but his screaming throws my DD, who has Autism and sensitivity to noise, into a crying screaming fit too.
Anyone else go through this and have suggestions? Also - he reverse cycles and barely takes a bottle at daycare so he wakes up frequently to eat still.

Re: wake up before 5 am

  • Will he play in his crib alone? We have one of those baby Einstein seascapes things that hangs on the side of her crib. I call it her "tv" lol. It worked great to give her something calm to look at that was interesting enough to keep her attention but not overly stimulating. And it plays soothing sounds so sometimes puts her back to sleep without my help. (Side note- now that she knows how to turn it on/off, it's a no-go because that's all she wants to do, but worked wonders before that!)

  • I have the same issue. My DD 6 months & DS almost 3 yrs old are waking up at 5. They are still on the old time schedule. They are falling asleep at 7 & 7:45. Its impossible to keep DD awake past 7. But getting up at 5 is getting old BC I end up staying up till 10 after cleaning up everything & showers

  • DD had that seascape thing, I completely forgot, I will have to find it in her closet and see if that helps DS. He is very needy and doesn't play well on his own for long, but maybe that would help. He wakes up passed if he is laying down and screams (not just cries), but screams until he can be sat up to play.
  • what time is bedtime?
