Can we talk pie?

What pies do you want at Thanksgiving? I was thinking I'd make a winter fruit crumble pie with apples, pears, cranberries and maybe figs. Then I was thinking I would either make a pumpkin pie or make pumpkin profiteroles.

    This!

  • MIL is making her traditional pumpkin pie. My mom is making a chocolate pecan torte thing with caramel drizzled over it. I'm drooling just thinking about it.

  • We'll have my Grandma's pumpkin pie and probably a few others. I should figure out a type of pie to bring to dinner. Nothing is worse than running out of food at Thanksgiving.

  • I'm just making a pumpkin pie. It's just going to be DH, FIL, and I eating it (DS can't have eggs, so he can't sample). Apple pie is my absolute favorite though and I thought about making that too, but I don't feel like sharing it with my FIL. I want all the apple pie for myself. Lol. :)

It's just us and FIL here too but I still want two pies. :P

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • I am making a pumpkin pie, sweet potatoe pie (i like these better than pumpkin) and chocolate pie.   I am nervous about the chocolate pie since it is so fickle to make and with LO at my ankles it should be fun.

Usually a family is a pumpkin family or a sweet potato family. I have never had sweet potato pie.

  • @Baker_Bride you must make yourself one of these delicious pies!    Very similar to pumpkin but with brown sugar . . . mmmmmmm

  • You all are impressing me. There is no baking of pies in my house. I will be ordering them from the bakery. Also, sweet potato pie? That just sounds odd.
  • @countrybb1 it's on my list but I need pumpkin for thanksgiving. I'm already crabby we aren't going home so something needs to be traditional. But at least I get complete control over the menu. >:)

That's another one I've never made. The Baked cookbook has a recipe for chocolate bourbon pecan pie that I want to try.

  • I once made a chocolate pecan pie for Thanksgiving and my genius cooking skills lead me to believe I needed no recipe . . . . it was like chocolate pecan soup and I kid you not I baked it for over an hour.    Even more odd, most of it was eaten.

  • not sure if we're doing apple or pumpkin. probably apple. i find pecan pie to be too sweet.
  • We always have pumpkin pie. I'm thinking of doing a turtle or sweet potato pie to go with it. It will most likely be turtle pie, since sweet potato is so close to pumpkin.

  • Mmmmm pie.

Maybe pecan pie this year? We made white chocolate pumpkin fudge one year and it was fan-freaking-tastic. So maybe that too.

I also love apple and pumpkin and cranberry upside down cake.

  • @saltypearl . . . Rhubarb has a second growth during the fall so you could find that but you would have to use frozen strawberries.

  • Down with pies.

    Up with crisps.

My FIL's girlfriend is making pies for our gathering, which is all well and good.  I'm sure everyone will enjoy them very much.

As soon as they leave, a delicious apple crisp is going into the oven just for meeeeee.  (Also, DH.)
  • We always do pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving and usually pecan too. If I'm honest though, I don't really care about the pie because I love the meal way too much.
